I was so mad! My son has a bit of a learning disability, which is fine because we just work harder because of it. The school system decided they were going to have a bit of a strike this year, which is fine, we will work around it. So I don't have access to report cards or parent teacher interviews and can only communicate by email unless I can get the teachers to call me. One teacher wouldn't call me so I sent many emails, asking how my son was doing and what his grade is and when his tests were so I could make sure that I was ontop of helping him along.
I am so mad. At the beginning of January, I asked the teacher again, how was my son doing, was he behind, was there a test coming and is there anything I should know since the semester was ending at the end of January. He reply was that he has pneunomia and to read his message from the beginning of December. My son had already taken care of the assignments from December. So I asked my son and he said that he thought he was doing okay.
TODAY! The last day of the semester, I get an email from this idiot teacher who says that my son is at 25% and will fail, and for my son to see him tomorrow. WTF!!!!
I went straight to the principal and sent all my emails between this lame scholar and told her how unaccpetable and unprofessional this was and don't care that this teacher had a run with pneunomia and that I have Chronic Migraines and Graves Disease and a full time job and still manage to make my commitments. How could this teacher not know that my son was at 25%, especially with all my emails and knowing that he was a slow learner!
I have never pulled my "disease"card but I am sick and tired of lame excuses for incompetances. You want to pull an ""I was sick card"", then I will damn well TRUMP you with a lifetime of woes!
I just had to vent.
I could go on and on. I am so angry for so many reasons.

Instead we have a mass education system run by quasi-professionals. We force all children to learn the same way at the same pace. And if they have the funds they may identify children who need extra attention and try too help them. But again that is done in a structured setting.
Our whole society needs to be turned around. Professional parents who stay home to teach their children in the early years. Small learning groups or charter schools where the child is free to discover who they are. Special high schools that continue the adventure and allow children to explore their interests.
Unfortunately the people who we trust to make these decisions will not allow change because it will jeopardize their position. The public schools and teachers don't want charter schools because they would take their students (and funding). The politicians won't encourage change because their employees are there because of the "system".
I think you did great. You were angry but used it to get a positive result.
I believe Edison was thrown outta school because he "daydreamed" too much according to his teacher.
My son was in pre school when the parent teacher meeting the teacher told me he was not interested in learning colors or numbers.
They just ASSUMED that no child would know primary colors or the numbers 1 thru 10 and talked to him like these were hard concepts.
When I asked the teacher if they TESTEd FIRST to see what the child knew already, she laughed at me like I was too stupid to understand what she was telling me. So I got my child and went around the room asking him what color things were and what numbers were.
He knew shades and number to 100 at that time.
Do I have to tell you that I stopped at the directors office to get my check for the next months tuition back and never took my child back???
There are really good teachers in this world. One saved me from a life of sorrow by noticing a disability and helping me learn.
It is a shame that the bad ones get the focus.
You stood by your son and you can be SURE he knows that too!
