I applied for ssdi back in March and I got approved by the end of April and I was suppost to get paid SSI while waiting the 5 months to get my first ssdi check. They denied me because of resources of my moms checking account because my name was on her account but we appealed it back in May now I had some money get deposited into my account that was a total surprize I didn't even know why I had this money and I didn't want to spend it incase of error and they wanted to pull it back out then two days later I got a letter from Social security saying they were in favor of me and that I will get a letter with in 30 days of how much back pay I will be getting. The appeal was dated back in July so this has been a long time coming. I got my first SSDI check in October so I kinda gave up on it. SO this was a surprize and I was able to afford some of my meds that I couldn't get :D. I don't want to sound like bragging I just wanted to share some good news because with me it never seems to happen lol. I hope evetyone has a good New Years and lets hope we get better treated in the next year and we get properly dianosed and that we get to feeling better :)

That is crap I had a settlement in my name in a cd with a good amount in it and I still got it-- follow up with him that does not sound right I live in MI so laws could be different

and any kids under the age 18 get money you need to file a claim for them and they also get back pay I got an extra 20,000 just for the,

Wow, you got approved in a HURRY!! It took me 2 1/2 years to get approved for disability!! I was beginning to lose hope - but I finally got approved.

Thanks Manny but I have no kids I am only 25 and I have RA for 5 years and I haven't thought about having kids but hopefully one of these days I will :)

Thats wonderful news! I'm so happy for you! Thats not bragging it's sharing your rejoicing yippie yahoo for you!!!!!
It took me almost 3 yrs I love to here that it didn't take you that long and you are able to get your meds and the things that you need I know how hard it is.

Your not bragging, that's good news. I'm still stuck in the battle on my second year and you give me some hope that this will be over someday. You should be happy, it's not easy to get. I hope this will make things easier for you.

Glad the system work for you.And now you can get your meds.I applied once myself in 2007 but I was told I could do minimal work.I was a private duty Peds nurse.That was for Breast cancer and all the surgeries and treatments.Now I've ruined my back I may try again with an Atty.Your good news is good news for all.Congrats.

Congrats, it took me almost 3 years and a lawyer to get approved. I was approved in aug of this year, I got my first check in sept but im still waiting on my backpay. my Medicare will kick in in Jan so that will be a big help. Dont worry about bragging, Its a big accomplishment.

That's how it happened to me too when I applied for disability. I got the money then the letter. Great when that first check comes isn't it. The retroactive was really helpful to me and I'm glad that you're not getting some of the help that you need. Suffering with the illnesses is tough enough without having to have these financial issues crop up.

Congratulations and if that's not a good New Years Eve present I don't know what is. Looks like it'll be a better year for you!

Oh God.... I'm so so sorry. I didn't mean what I wrote... TYPO TYPO. Saying that I'm glad you're NOT getting what you need....dumb dumb of me. Of course I meant I'm glad you're NOW getting it.

Oh and Destiny, did you call SS? You should have gotten all the retro already. I've never heard of it not coming with your first payment. I know it's a pain to call them having to be on the line waiting for sometimes 20 min so I make a cup of tea and settle in whenever I need to call them..
