Sorry, this post is completely about me.
I made a decision (I thought) to do this treatment at home to hopefully avoid more invasive feeding alternatives. It's a simple subcutaneous shot
that in and of itself is painless.
Well, I fudged on docs orders n took less often that directed 'cause I was feeling better. Bad idea, and the day before yesterday I subsequently had a HORRIBLE reaction to it. Was a hair away from 911 when meds brought pain relief.
Well, today is shot day. Now is shot time. An hour ago was time. I prepped it and there it sits.
I MADE this decision already, I thought.
But, I'm afraid to use it.
I'm trying to focus on long run and alternatives and benefits,and dangers involved in not treating. But, I can only think of how badly it hurt me.
I like to think I'm fairly tough. But there it sits ready to use and I keep procrastinating.
There is family here to help me if I need it after, so it should be just pick it up and do it, right?
I'm sorry this is so long and self-centered.

You are strong, but a bad reaction would turn anyone off. Is this a typical reaction to this treatment, or just because you used it wrong?
You got family there, try it, and if you have another bad reaction, it would be time to consult with the doc.

don't know why that's so hard. hope you feel well today.
Then we go home and start looking on the internet. We ask our friends and family. We listen to Great-aunt Marge who had a bad reaction to a similar drug 20 years ago.
Then we decide that we (or our friends and family) know better than the doctor. We play doctor. Cut the dosage, change the times, add things or just refuse to take it.
But we never call the doctor to say "ummm I was thinking". How many have actually done that? How many could actually get through to their doctor to say that?
I'm lucky that I have a doctor (and his nurse) who are amazing. Office policy is that one of them will call you before the end of the day. And they want to hear the concerns. I can sit in the office and ask questions and refuse certain meds. Or if I am uncertain I can say "let me think and I'll call this afternoon". I know this isn't normal and I only have this with my neurologist. But shouldnt all doctors be like this?
Then there is the problem of non-compliance. Did you know that a doctor can dismiss you as a patient if you refuse to follow his orders? That is what Kate has encountered. She said her doctors have stopped treating her because she refuses to take her meds as prescribed. You are also in violation of a pain med contract if you take LESS than prescribed. Bet you didn't know that one.
A relationship with a doctor has to be two way. You have to participate also.

We even discussed MJ which is illegal here unless your terminal. He gave me permission to try it I just have to tell him if I do so he won't do a random pee test. He told me about drinking OJ and that it'll enhance my meds if I need a boost. I'm not suppose to tell anybody this stuff though. He could get in trouble for telling me these things.
