Learning to cope is about the best any of us can do unfortunately and truly revel in the few times when it's not quite so bad. I do know that keeping the mind active can help some. distracting you from the pain as weird as that sounds. Perhaps starting a newsletter or something of that sort. Perhaps writing letters to your kids and grandkids or future grandkids your true feelings towards them that they will get when they are old enough to understand. Basically anything that "might" take your mind off what your body is doing. Unfortunately there are no easy answers but finding something to keep your mind active has helped me a lot.
I wish you luck.
