This is probably a stupid thing to post, but for almost a month I have been having swelling issues in my legs and the doctor now thinks it is a reaction to the neurontin I am taking and they have me slowly weaning off of it.
I have been keeping my feet elevated and the swelling is coming down. However, the pain in my left foot is still pretty bad, even with all the pain medication I take.The swelling in my right foot is pretty much gone (unless I walk too much limping and put lots of weight on it then it swells some), my left foot is better today swelling wise but still hurts to walk on.
This started out as both feet swollen and feeling horrible bruised on the bottoms of my feet. The right foot is better, but the left is terrible.
As the day goes by it is slowly swelling because it's not elevated. How do you know if the pain is from something new, medication or ? My foot throbs with pain all the time and yet feels like it is wearing a too tight of sock or something. When I step down onto it it feels squwishy and kind of sharp on my foot on the outside and like a knife is being jammed up from my heal/outside ankle all the way up halfway on my calf, on the bone side (shin I think)?
I don't know if I should push this with the doctor or just keep waiting as the neurontin goes out of my system? My foot is red, and the toes are looking bruised slightly (something only seen once the swelling came down some). There is no other signs on the skin, except a tiny blue spot on the inside of my ankle top that looks like broken veins on the surface?
The doctor mentioned it could be a blood clot? Anyone ever have one of those? Did it feel like this? Could be from all the swelling, but I'm not sure. I have never had swelling like this not related to an injury of some kind, or the RSD in my arms. The doctor wants to completely wean of neurontin ( two pills left, one a week so two weeks left)
Can the swelling itself cause damage? It is kind of like the swelling I have in my arms, but the pain/ symptoms is different. Any advice, suggestions, etc would be helpful right now.

But if the swelling starts after taking it it the medication.
It can cause swelling in limbs and legs and that.

I am new to this Community and was reading your post here. You have already received some very good advice. If you think that you have a blood clot, then the worst thing you can do is nothing! They are very dangerous. There is a test that feels like an ultrasound, (nothing painful) that can determine if it is a clot.
As for the medicine itself, I can only echo what someone else said. If the swelling has only been there after you increased your medicine, then it is likely that it can be your medicine. The only way to tell this is to "wean" you off the Neurontin to see if it was the culprit.
Some of your story is so much like my own personal life, I couldn't believe it! I also take Ms-Contin and Neurontin for back & leg pain, after back surgery. The 2nd back surgery I had left me perm. disabled due to the chronic pain. In addition to that, I also have RSD in both arms & hands! I was diagnosed approx. 14 yrs ago when RSD wasn't very recognized and alot of doctors weren't familiar with it. After alot of nerve blocks my arms eventually got better but I do get occassional flare ups. I do hope that your RSD is manageable. I know how painful it can be. I wanted to chop my arms off at one point!
Good luck to you. Please don't wait to get your foot/leg tested for a blood clot. It also shouldn't matter that you don't "know" this other doctor. You need to take care of yourself, no matter what!

Rosalita, thanks for the post and I find it interesting also that the dosage you stated is the exact dosage increases I have had, same spot I got in trouble too. hum, maybe it's a normal place for someone to hit problems?
Blessedx2, sadly I have learned that my story is not uncommon, and many people here share a lot of my experiences or worse- so you've come to the right place to learn your not alone with your pain!
