I saw my doc yesterday and she said to stop working...NOW. I started on a patch for pain, but my pain level is off the charts today. I have breakthrough meds, but how can that possibly help if the first thing didn't even give me a moment's relief? I think I've gone from breakthrough to breakdown.

My doc also told me to call voc rehab and see what I could find out. I'm going to an orientation tomorrow morning (if I can get there) and they said I would learn about the services and then have a one on one interview with a counselor. My doc said I should waste no time in applying for at least temporary disability. I'm too broken to pursue anything without help.

Let's hope the orientation will lead to an advocate who will assist me at this time. I don't want to live like this, anymore.

Didn't you have your own business? Maybe I read that part wrong. Why I ask is that vocational rehabilitation directs towards employment (working for somebody), not running or owning a business.

Yes, cc, I am a hairstylist and my salon is on one side of my house. My doctor told me to stop doing this kind of work and after a period of time to heal (hopefully), perhaps I could do something else. I can't see much beyond the moment with my current pain, though.

I can't imagine going back to working for someone else, but I'll go to the orientation and find out what they offer. Even if I rented both stations in my salon, it wouldn't bring in enough money to maintain a house that's too big for my needs.

I remember when my doctor said I could not work anymore it was so scary I was a restaurant manager and doing it for 20 years working 10-12 hours shifts 5 to 6 days a week and knew I could not do it but what about bills and so forth I just had to take a leap of faith and quit I got some disability from my job and applied for disability and withdrew my 401 till it came through it was tight but sometimes you just got to take a leap and cross your fingers.

I've been suffering horribly today, but didn't want to whine about it. I'm waiting to hear from my doctor about increasing...something. I called this morning and haven't heard a thing, yet.

I have to start the whole process for disability over from the beginning. I should have tried when I was denied last Fall, but was too depressed to follow through. The local disability attorney requires that you be denied...twice before they will help.

So...I'm in too much pain to handle it and feel thrown to the wolves.
