Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Don't be scared to call your doctor (okay...maybe I would be too, but in this line of work -- fighting chronic pain! -- I've gotten better at being less wussy and more assertive when it comes to some of this stuff! This is probably the dumbest, worst example that doesn't even compare but it's the most recent thing I can think of:
Since my daughter is getting a little older Ive decided it's time to resume my relentless pain management pursuit, and I made a few appointments with new specialist and Pain Management Centers. My brain is officially turning into mush and as I got all ready for my appointments I was diligent about preparing and everything. I asked my mom and husband to clear their schedules to come with me to these appointments, the first one was just a few days ago. We get there and turn in all my paperwork and the office manager looks at me and says "ummmm, your appointment isn't for 2 weeks..." And I was baffled because I had been checking my calendar etc...i was adamant that there was a miscommunication so we go out to the car to figure out what to do with our free afternoon since my daughter was with a babysitter and my hubby and mom canceled their stuff. I check my calendar again and I show them the appointment right there in my phone...mom and hubby say "uhhhh, your appointment is at the pain management center not dr. ______....and when I reread it sure as sh*t that's what it says but the crazy part is no matter how many times I read it, it was translating into my brain the other way...CRAP! (I guess I need to include that I do have ADD but it's never been a huge issue...mostly my silly mind does that kind of stuff where I invert things or whatever...so although totally embarrassing and annoying, it wasn't the first time
The point of this story is that right away I start thinking of all these "reasons" to tell the pain center for why I missed my apt (I actually pride myself on taking ownership of things, not making excuses, etc...but I was so embarrassed and was scared that the PM Center would take my no-show as a sign of irresponsibility or disrespect and maybe not want to reschedule me) but then I quickly told myself to shove it and call them ASAP and tell them the truth...so I did along with a sincere apology...and they were beyond understanding and rescheduled me right away. SO...totally not the same thing as losing your charger (which is absolutely something I would do!!!) but at this point I think I'd just call my doc and apologize and tell them how embarrassed I was and that I just want to make it right!!! Pink, especially with this, I know they'll be understanding and try to help your oft away!!! I just don't want your poor little body to suffer in pain because of your hesitance (although totally justified!) to let them know!
And as for my update, there's a few things right now that I'm pursuing while I climb out of this period of being in limbo -- wanting to totally and completely be present and undistracted (before my daughter was born, looking for answers, help, anything and everything was literally a full time job for me that was using all of my energy...hence the commitment I made to temporarily shelf that when my daughter was born....knowing that because of my struggle with CP we won't have anymore children, I wanted to give that energy and time to parenting my baby girl) with the plan to resume my personal crusade at a later date.
So in the meantime, my leg (injuries and several surgeries) is still in the same pain but what has moved to the forefront in my back issues...which have gotten worse. I'm lines up to see new specialists while at the same time I'm speaking with some prior ones that I'm going to start working with again in the next few weeks. And this time around, through research, I feel much better educated and equipped to get back in there and be very respectfully assertive and adamant about needing more help and what I'm looking for. Going in for a round of new MRI's, CT's , X-rays, and 3D imaging just to start...and I am truly at the point of desperation for more help and treatment because...not to sound dramatic...I cannot live like this.
Pink, so nice of you to check in :) and I look forward to hearing from everyone else, too!
