Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Taking numerous single days is not the way to go. If your pain is that bad, you might want to look into using disability benefits for a short/long period of time. Use the extra time to persue other methods to cure/tolerate your pain issues.
I like taking a day here or there...because sometimes that is all I need to get me through the week and my co-workers don't notice it as much as several days in a row which I reserve for emergencies and other such things.
Your employer does not need to know much...basically that you are covered for it for X specificed legnth of time and approximately X amount of days/month. The company I work for (State of Oregon) is pretty flexible about it...direct management really knows nothing unless I share it...FMLA is done through payroll for me.
Even if I never use it...at least I have it in case. It protects my job, keeps me out of trouble and my co-workers, most of whom are wonderful people, can bite me if they don't like it. If I was a whiny person...you know those kind...oh I have a cold, oh my ingrown toenail is infected, oh my asthma is acting up, oh my arm hair hurts, then I would understand and feel bad about leaving my coworkers in the lurch....
but, if taking a day off...or working 1/2 day for a week in a row means saving my butt during bad times AND still putting food on the table...that is where I am going to lay my head on the FMLA pillow and not feel one damned bit of guilt.
When I asked about FMLA at my job a few years back when my mom actually died on our living room floor and was taken to the ICU at our local hospital, I tried to get on FMLA and they told me unless I was her constant care giver I couldn't use it. The reason I bring this up is that I do not know for sure if you are able to use this on different days or if you have to use it on consecutive days. I do not know if they let you take days here and there.
LBF: FMLA is Family Medical Leave Act. The government inacted this act so people that have sick children or older, sick parents they are able to take time from their jobs without penelty. I do not think you get paid for the time you are off, but you will not suffer reprocussions if you are off work to care for your loved one.
yes...you can have intermittent days off for ANY reason that is approved for FMLA
I have FMLA for my daughter who is disabled and requires me to be able to leave sometimes at a moment's notice.
I have FMLA for myself if I need to call in sick or take some time for medical appointments. I am out of paid time...which I why I needed the FMLA as I ran through 96 hours of accrued paid time in sick and vacation from march 2010-August 2010. I did not actually hit Leave Without Pay until September. I started using the FMLA in August when my time was getting low. I code it differently so they know when my off time is actually "protected" time.
