Tonight's Dr.Drew Show will be about prescribed meds and addiction- surprise, surprise! It's about Whitney, even though they don't yet know if meds had anything to do with her death. They just announced on HLN that "despite how Whitney died, Dr. Drew will focus on prescription medications and doctors who overprescribe and cater to celebs." Didn't we JUST do this with Michael Jackson?
Well, you know Dr. Drew- if anyone takes even one painkiller, it's too much. I honestly think he should recuse himself b/c he is SO biased from years of working with drug addicts. But that's what passes for a "talk show" these days.
So we have Jane Velez Mitchell at 7pm, a recovering alcoholic who mentions her "sobriety" in every show at least twice, who will be looking to blame it on meds, or the glass of champagne Whitney had that night. And Nancy Grace at 8pm will look at Whitney's last days and the case (and you KNOW they'll compare it to MJ's) and then Dr. Drew's probable one-sided report. Not that there aren't drug addicts and doctors who supply them, we're not completely naive, but it's as if Dr. Drew NEEDS all of us to be addicts. I just don't like that man. He should stick to Celebrity Rehab- he's good at that.

I forget who gave us the link to the CP series on the Huffington Post. The report was not Dems vs GOP or any of that and a very good read. Among other things, it seems the medical examiners count a death as opiate related if you mention taking even one pill in the last year before you died, a script shows up in the state data base or if a prescription bottle is found in your house from when you had the root canal last spring. Doesn't matter if you died by being hit by a bus or even if you were only a passenger on a train that derailed - your death is opiate related.
I don't know what we did to become public enemy #1, but this is happening.
I don't think he knows what he is doing -- at least he could talk about the people that ACTUALLY need the medication. He ASSUMES EVERYONE is an addict in some way. He thinks that anyone can be "addicted" to *anything* ... if he were to walk in a CP'ers life... HE WOULD THINK DIFFERENT! I can guarantee THAT! He is smug and talks about what he doesn;t know.

This was the TOPPER for me...Now I can't watch him-- Dr. Drew actually said... after a "celebrity" was on his show for "sexual addiction" that... you cannot pleasure yourself because thats all a part of your... "sexual addiction." WHA?
They seem to come up with new "addictions" to keep the money rolling in -- its BIG business for the treatment centers. Its not all about **fuzzy wuzzy I wanna help** its much more than that...
When headline news origally hit the airwaves, it was well respected, as was cnn and for that matter the other networks as well. Just goes to show what happens when Hollywood gets involved with journalism.
I am not discounting the abuse of drugs and alcohol demons that Whitney dealt with throughout her not so private public life. But can't anyone think of her daughter before they open non journalistic reporting of the news. I hope this makes some sense.
I am headed to bed as I am toasted but in a nutshell, I wouldn't give you the time of day for the reporters that you mention, thialagen.

LittleB- I agree with you. I'm the one who posted the link to the articles on Huffington and I can't seem to get that info out of my head.
That said, I still watch the 1st 2 shows occasionally, if there's an interesting topic. I get a kick out of Nancy Grace- she is so funny but doesn't realize it. My friend does a great impression of her.
As for Dr. Drew, I think he is addicted to fame and the only way to keep it is to continue as he has been. He should stick to his old job, though. He's too judgmental.
the "boogie man" perspective is growing here, i think, but as long they continue to do little research, the problem will continue to grow. we have to push for representation.
So hard and frustrating and terrifying to watch pain as political issue/entertainment.
