Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Thank you for asking the question! I think every single one of us face this dilemma at some point. We deal with it uniquely, since we are individuals but given that we are a group we can learn from one another. The answer of course is there is no right answer, just what works for you. But, we have all had to deal with butting up against the frustration of CP. How do you verbalize your frustration about CP without sounding like a drama queen?
For me I think I try and use humor. Maybe it would be called dark humor at times, but regardless I try and interject a light note when I am discussing my health issues. And I rarely anymore talk about my health with anyone, except doctors. People just get tired of hearing about our medical issues and they tune out and push away. So I have found it best to stay off the subject. I have taught those I love that the question, "How are you?" , is not one they should ever ask of me. Because the answer is always the same AWEFUL! Who wants to hear that? And I don't want to have to make up a lie.
I realize that it means I have intentionally isolated myself from people. By not sharing my health issues you could say that. But those who love me know full well the extent of my problems and my seizures are public enough that I have no choice at times but including other people. It is at those times, during seizures that I really feel like a drama queen. It has always been difficult for me to accept the public nature of my seizures. It embarrasses me.
I know it was a huge relief to me to find this group. A place where everyone readily understood me and shared my concerns. It is nice not to have to shy away from talking about pain or issues concerning CP because there is real support here. The friends I have made on this group are absolutely golden and I treasure them. So maybe one answer you have already found and it is right here among us. Here you are not seen as a drama queen, but as a person in pain on a daily basis and we are here to support you and hold your hand.
Hugs, Cathy
