In my search for justice in my denied benefits of Long Term Disability (LTD) from my former employer Home Depot I came across a court case where UNUM was ordered by the NY courts to pay numerous denied long term disability cases dating back to the late 1990s.
So in my curiosity I contacted Georgias Insurance Commissioner to see if he noticed a pattern with MetLife. My question and response are below. As you can see if we, the denied disabled consumer, contact our state insurance commissioners then perhaps with enough complaints something will be accomplished.
If you cannot tell by now I am on a mission with this. I am sick of being sick and I am sick of being the underdog with no options! Join me in this please!
MY QUESTION: John- I understand you support NY's stance on unfair practices for the disabled insured people by Unum. So how can I prompt you to do the same here in Georgia with Home Depot's LTD carrier MetLife? They are pulling the same stunts with us. I have lost my home and all my savings and went 18 months without healthcare treatments. I have been accepted on SSDI on the 1st try (unheard of right) PLEASE help us!
THE RESPONSE: As for your request for Commissioner Oxendine to take similar action against MetLife as was taken with UNUM in regards to disability claims, our office tracks complaints and takes appropriate action when patterns of complaints arise. To date, we have not seen a pattern of complaints with MetLifes handling of disability claims as was previously detected with UNUM. We will, however, continue to monitor complaints and address any issues that need to be handled on a broader basis.

I am sorry to here about your long term disability, where you a employee with the home depot a long time, i had a similar case, i worked for a restaurant for 20 years and i quit because i could not handle the pain, stupid me i could of went on long term disability, i thought I could go back and work with another resturant thinking the work load would be less because they had 5 times the amount of managers working there, unfortunaly that was not the case and i had to go on disability after working only a month there i was surprised that i qualify for short term disability and i got paid 65% of my wage for three months, when that ended they just said i didnt qualify for long term , i didnt push it because i was grateful that i got what i got, but now i wonder why didnt i qualify they just said i didnt and that was that, no letter nothing

oh, when i went for the appeal, it was, well, you haven't seen a doctor in all this time, there must not be anything wrong. Why didnt i go to the emergency room/ yall know they don't treat chronic pain patients and i just cant spend the money to be told there is nothing they can do.
IHave you tried for medicaid? I was told I make to much a year, the amount equalled my mortgage payments at the time. But if I was an illegal immigrant they could help me. Just what a tax payer loves to hear. I hear there are several new hospitals being built throughout Iraq...maybe I should have moved there?
