I went on Sunday the 26th to get my long acting meds filled at the pharmacy i use every month, and they dont have it, they said they've had it on back order for a while now, so i go to the pharmacy next door, same thing!!! Its driving me crazy, so on Monday i go a pharmacy that i use when my regular pharmacy doesnt have my meds, in the next town, where i work, and guess what? SAME THING!! I went to 4, YES 4 other pharmacies there and they too are saying the same thing, they all have them on back order. Ive never had this happen before, especially with my long acting meds, did the doctors suddenly decide to put everyone on them? ive been on them almost 2 years now. I thought about going to the pharmacy at the pain clinic where i go, but i would have to drive close to an hour away from where i live!! but i dont want to do that, but its looking like i might not have a choice. WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO!!!!

That's terrible! The only thing I can think of to do would be to sit with the phone book and call every pharmacy you didn't go to and ask if they have your med in stock. If not, then call you PM doc and see if hell write you an rx for another long acting med.

i'd report this to your dr. for one thing so he knows what's going on. myabe he could give you something else in the meantime. a lot of pharmacies won't tell you what's in stock for fear of robbery. maybe he and his staff can help. good luck!

That's a scary position to be in....
I hope you can get it worked out quickly...
Wonder if there was a recall on your Med?
I'd do as Theresa suggested and call around.....especially
call ahead if you've got to drive an hour!

Wow- you can fill your scrips anywhere? Or only if your pharmacy is out?

This happened once to me (once was enough!) and I ended up getting it filled at the hospital pharmacy. It wasn't the one they had in the lobby that was mostly for hospital/clinic patients, but it was the actual hospital's pharmacy! I had to ring a bell and slip the scrip under the glass- all very weird. The pharmacist made sure I knew it was only b/c no one had it and I'd be out w/o the refill.

Do you have a hospital nearby where you can explain the situation?

Is it oxycotin? My brother had the same problem the last 2 months. His dr. had to change his meds because they quit making what he took.

I just had this happen to me what I would do is start calling pharmacy's and if no body has them call the doctor he is going to have to change it to something else as he might have to do if you do even find a place if everyone cant get it in they might have stopped production on it for some reason.

Hopefully you can find someone who carries them or he switches to something else that is just as good.

No progress yet, I even tried the hospital, like someone suggested, they only fill in hospital scripts!! Im going to call the doctor again tomorrow to see what i should do!! This situation is driving me nuts!!! UGH!! I got the same script filled last month, thats why its so weird that im having trouble this month. I may have to make a drive on Friday to the clinic's pharmacy, something i dont want to do, but its looking like i have no choice!

there was a major recall about 2 months ago that was going to affect pain meds as well as many over the counter meds. i would bet that's what's up.

I had the same problem filling my Buspar prescription this month-apparently it was backordered all the way to the manufactor! I guess a lot of people take Buspar now; and the docs are prescribing it to keep off the benzos.
It's enough to pull your hair out!

Hi kyCRYSTAL,
I hope you have gotten your prescription filled by now. If not, I hope you can find an alternative drug.
Is this a script you take daily? Some pharmacies will give you your refills in 28 days, so if you refill it sooner than 30 days you will have a couple days worth just in case... I try to do this because I am afraid of running out.

For those who wanted to know what was going on, i called Dr. office today, and the nurse told me that they shut down the manufacturing plant a few months ago due to some massive problems they were having with the medication, they just started production back last week, she said. She said they had alot of backorders so dont know how long it would take to send out to all pharmacies. She gave me a choice to either keep calling other pharamacies to find out if anyone else has them in other counties or i could just come in for a med change, i opted for the 2nd. The pain clinic i go to is in a big city, and she even said they cant find them there either, so what does that tell u. Crazy!!!

It is crazy they would prescribe a Med they KNOW there's a problem with because of the manufacturer....

i don't know if you have back up meds, but at this point, i'd be tracking them and i would have jumped on this monday b'c i know how long things take. sorry for your situation, but we also have to be our own advocates these days. good luck.
