Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I have chronic pain, I'm unable to get pain relief anymore, my medical records speak, I speak, yet they do not read them nor listen to me. I have spent 30 years going from aspirin to Vicodin, with diagnosis and testing previously to prove my pain, so much time and money wasted. I have never been in trouble, no traffic tickets, no breaking the laws, I do not think the government, insurance and law enforcement, pharmacys should be in my medical records, yet I have no issue with Doctors being allowed access to my legal information, any of it, driving records giving them open ability to watch me, test me by urine and blood tests, only to be judged based on my information in office, not denied because others do things wrong! whatever the reason. My own sister in law chugged a bottle of booze and took Vicodin, and died, I have sympathy, but to clump her and others as suicidal or stupid is wrong, no she didn't want to kill herself, she just had cosmetic surgery and was looking forward in life, but she took a risk, it was her risk, her life, and her death, the same goes for anyone who does NOT follow directions. I don't play Russian roulette, or gamble, I don't drink, smoke, or do illegal drugs, I stay close to home because I hurt so bad. I despise the attitude of the medical community, I am tired of the neglect, and financial rape, sending me all over to seek relief, to be told, The new guidelines are .. or I am not comfortable writing... we no longer will write that scheduled drug.. I am made to feel less than I am, put down, and forced to suffer the torture, the pain, my body feels, causing more than discomfort, I know pain, and discomfort would be a welcome feeling. This lack of care, causes a domino effect, leading to kidney failure from too much over the counter pain meds that do not work, in less than 2 years, while I watch my physical body twist and contort and change in response to valid medical issues and denial of treatment. This is murder, in atonement for others who failed to follow rules, government control for their war on drugs! criminalizing the wrong people, for whatever reason. We die seeking life, so less people will die by accident or suiside? and we are forced to watch criminal, drug abusers, alcoholics, street people, line up at free methadone clinics (paid for by the same people who deny us) receiving free pain relief medication, entitlements, when they break the laws, don't fit in society's guidelines, and use both legle and illegal drugs, mixing it all and still use. The criminal sorts who do not care, want a high, get methadone, medical care, therapy, housing and food, pain control so they can get get more dope, and break more laws, when we need help to get up and work, and pay bills and taxes!. SHAME!
Here I suggest all pain sufferers get in methadone lines, stop all the handouts, stop the discrimination, persecution, because we count too, let's find ways to hold accountable all medical Doctors refusing appropriate pain relief to good citizens, jam up all the courts with lawsuits and make all medical professionals be accountable for the consequences of their actions and inaction, by lawsuits and injury claims, and criminal prostitution for torture as well, if we stop going to all Doctors refusing treatment and ban them from practice because they harm us, list the names and medical licence # refuse to see them, and make them take notice. We must at least sit up in bed and find a way to list these criminals, for what they are. After all who really goes to a Doctor when not feeling pain? or when we feel something is wrong? it's us, the people hurting, we pay the bills. Lets reward real Doctors who treat appropriately. We are terrorized by the war on illegal drugs, tortured and punished for crimes others committed, judged and sentenced unfairly without regard, with no rights, and controlled beyond reason, as we pay to enforce laws intended for war.

Have you gone to Pain Management Drs ? Have you not asked for specific drugs and doses ? Have you gone by all of the rules of the Pain Contract ? Have you taken copies of your medical records with you to see new drs ? Everything in life is governed by rules. Pain management is no different.
And sorry your sister died but I entirely agree- this is land of the free, if she's not harming anyone else and paying her bills she has the right to get high in private/ kill herself. When it's someone like Michael Jackson or Prince everyone thinks that's so- 'cos they are rich and entitled- but the ordinary plebs, oh they need decisions made for them.
' Have you taken copies of your medical records with you to see new drs?.'
Are you in the USA ItsJustMe2012?
Do you know how little access many of us have to specialists, let alone choice of specialists, and how little investment has gone into pain solutions apart from prescribing same old same old for decades?
Oh except for developing really expensive more profitable drugs patented to the hilt which now the insurance companies don't want to fund anyway.
I have no axe to grind, I cannot take opiates or stomach most drugs to be honest, but the idea that all we have to do is ask and a world of alternatives opens up for all- that's not true.
'Methadone prescribed to treat opiate addiction and methadone used to treat chronic pain are not done in the same way.'
Again, that depends where you are and if you are lucky enough to get a good specialist.
'Everything in life is governed by rules. Pain management is no different'
yes, rules/laws should be minimal and applied fairly across the board I say. And enough already with the job justifications which amount to just basically imposing them on those it's easy to bully, whilst giving up on enforcement for the people who are NEVER going to accept or follow them!
Or simply accept that the rules/laws aren't going to be enforceable and give up- and let some of the pen pushers lose their privileged positions and feel the real world blowing for a change.
The thought that all CP'ers should switch to Methadone is insane...you might as well tatoo on your chest, "I abuse my RX meds!"
and you'd actually be surprised how many attention seekers go to Dr.'s when they perfectly fine, but they invent issues so they can go to the Dr.
The best thing to do is do your research find the good Dr.'s in the area you can use, or find ones that might be worth moving for.
California does seem to have much better healthcare than any other state.
I guess that's political?
But you have often complained about how bad your doctors and services are too? despite being prescribed painkillers.
70% of 'obamacare patients are Medicaid patients, it would make more sense to have made Medicaid available for all.
But even though I prefer Sanders out of all the presidential election candidates, only one who seems incorruptible, his medicare for all has holes in it too when I look at what medicare truly is.
It's no national health service.
In fact- nothing available to any American is truly comprehensive health insurance any more so far as I can see, there are massive holes in every type of insurance.
Caused by the for-profit aspect I have no doubt whatsoever.
I hope you find a better doctor for your pain management Mijkin. No one deserves to live in pain. Hugs!
AMEN!!!
Why should americans, world's best nation, have modern world's worst yet most expensive by far health care????
Too many people brainwashed by those who profit most?
Like the CEO pissing and moaning last week who nevertheless pays himself 27.8 million USD last year...no wonder there's no money left for patients!
Enough already.
I tried the medical marijuana which helped some, but I don't do well on psychoactive medication. If you search through the old threads, you will find posts where I blew up just like you're doing on this thread. I have a condition that is hard to prove pain wise, but my pain management doctor actually listens to me and believes me. You can't just point to one report like an MRI in my case and say "there it is, there is the reason why you're in pain!" All I have to show are three Doppler ultrasounds of my right leg that show two chronic non-occlusive blood clots my deep veins. One has very restricted blood flow, but they still call it non-occlusive. That is presumable the cause of all of my pain, because those areas there the scar tissue is located are where the pain radiates from. More and more I am beginning to believe it is CRPS. I think my initial injury has caused this.
Some days it can be very mild pain, and other days I can't sleep because the pain is really bad. That is ultimately what keeps me from dumping the pain meds. I can handle the pain during the day through forced inactivity (I sit on the couch and do absolutely nothing all day)! Some days my pain levels are good in the morning, but the pain builds throughout the day. It can even build from just being inactive on the couch. Other times, it gets really bad for two or three days after I go grocery shopping, or to several doctor appointments.
It's ultimately the fact that I toss and turn all night from the pain that causes me to chug down the pain meds. I don't doubt for one second that pain can kill a person. I would be in constant mental distress and lack of sleep from not having my pain medication. I would be explosively angry and probably end up in jail for physically assaulting someone. I really hope you can find some relief soon. Please be careful with the OTC meds. I do not take them unless I am forced off of my pain meds and I am not supposed to take most OTC meds because I am on blood thinners.
I can't afford to have a stomach bleed while therapeutic on Warfarin. I would bleed out before they could save me. Any how, I hope you're feeling better when you read this. I'm sorry we kind of hijacked your thread a bit and made it about healthcare. You are in the company of people who understand what you're going through, and we are here to support you! Hugs!
I'm one of the extremely fortunate who has had the same Pain Management DR. for years.
Only because I had the luck to have had the same GP for years who understood the need for it. ( One, by the way.. who is renowned for not referring people to Pain Management.)
Yes.. there are folks who don't get pain relief because of noncompliance with DR.s orders, or how they use meds.
But.. mor and more..
The war on prescription drug meds
Is causing good people who've done all the right things to lose desperately needed pain relief.
..I have little patience for non compliant patients complaining about Dr.s not helping them.
BUT..
There is a HUGE , growing population of people SUFFERING horribly due to the politics of opiate treatment for pain.
The POLITICS of it.
That IS inexcusable.
And, blaming the patients is, too.
I, likely, will continue to have my pain managed as long as needed..
Only because I'm one of the lucky ones whose condition will eventually be " terminal".
But.. if I were to lose it somehow..
I could see myself in a methadone line
Just to get pain relief.
Mijken..
I am SO sorry for the position you are in.
I know, from last experience,
How hard it is to keep struggling to find help..
I understand your rage and the underlying heartbreak.
Hugs

@Jeremy
after seeing what happens to people who work I think the old ideas of work hard and be rewarded and protected are applying less and less.
And honesty- well that's rewarded with disdain and a bunch of red tape.
All I can say is those who do care about their fellow man and about values of professionalism and sincerity and responsibility- hang on to your decency for as much as possible because the greedy are turning us into dog eat dog so they can take as much taxpayer money as possible before we wake up to it.
Almost all money going into our medical fields now belongs to taxpayers not to investors yet billions which could be helping patients just turns out to be ' profit'.
Anyone who objects is called anti- american or socialist.
Anyone who is struggling to get help or cope is apparently not helping themselves enough, labelled lazy or inadequate or now drug addict.
We should all have been paying more attention to what veterans have been saying for years, american heroes one minute living in poverty the next.
It's kind- of renewing my commitment to honesty and compassion though and especially fairness.
It's important. It's what USA is supposed to be. Not all this manipulative in- fighting about side issues to make a favored few the rich upper class at the expense of the majority and their whole working lives counting for nothing.
I'm sorry MIJKEN that you have gotten wrapped up in the hole that is docs and narcotics. I dropped my last PCP because he refused to give me pain meds for Neuro-Lyme Disease and I ended up in the hospital with heart muscle damage from my BP going up to 240/140 due to the severe pain that Neuro-Lyme brings.
But I also know the FDA and state regulators were coming down on him and his wife for over prescribing. So I switched to a new and younger doc who hadn't gotten into trouble yet. No problems so far.
I have to have narcotics available as my pain levels have almost killed me, twice. I've stroked from excessive pain and I damaged my heart, similar to a heart attack from a BP of 240/140...from pain.
But I hate them.
I "get it" and I'm sorry.

Tikka, I am in the U.S. The dose of Methadone that is given for chronic pain and the dose that is given for opiate addiction are not the same. Looking to see what drs that an insurance covers is extremely important before choosing that insurance. It may not be convinent, but I'm sure that there are specialist that your insurance covers that are somewhere in your area.
the 'directory' of available drs is supposed to be enforced accurate by law now ItsJustMe, but every time I use it it is very inaccurate plus EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF CORRESPONDENCE in writing or on the website has a disclaimer! It's a real mess.
I've wanted to change pcp for a while, but it took so long to get her, weeks of back and forth, and I will end up having insurance ( if 'obamacare' can be called that ) but paying cash. I've even thought of doing that but the costs just keep going up and when you're sick the income goes down.
Life was easy when I could just work around the clock if I had to, pick up any job just to get the cash ( or benefits )
@51percent
how can health insurance not cover Demerol. That's a generic isn't it?
Is it one of those drugs that have gone up 1000% or something?
It's exhausting being ill in AMerica!
Tikka, Why can't you call the drs in your area yourself and ask if they accept the insurance before you get it.
