Back pain question

I have two compression fractures that I know about caused by osteoporosis/osteopenia. When I was moving, I was thowing away papers, which was only sitting in a very ergonomic chair and filing. After an hour my back was hurting me so badly, I just had to lie down even with codiene.The thing is it seemed in the mid-thoracic region which is above the fractures. I've never had an MRI of this region. I was talking about this today with my doc and she says I have to have a X-ray first. I know an x-ray would see a fracture, but wonder if it is something else, since I also have connective tissue disease. Is a xray good enough to really catch some sort of arthritis, for instance?

There are some fractures an ray won't see.

Often.. the order insurance requires things done starts with rays.

When I was told my rays indicated no spine fractures..
Several folks here informed me that there spinal fractures were missed until they had specific tests with contrast dyes.

My spondylosis wasn't mentioned on ray report, either..
Though it has been on recurrent MRIs

Yes, insurance requires xrays for things like this first.

Well, I'll hope that if I need a scan I can get a scan. Medicaid makes things difficult that way.

I have never found X rays to be very helpful but usually the doctors want to start out with X rays, then on to a Cat Scan and last but not least, an MRI. Sometimes that is what the insurance companies require. I just went through extreme back pain when I tried to sit my mom up when she fell and then a week later I fainted and landed on a hard wood floor. I know how back pain can be as I had it before all that happened. Have you tried using a heating pad when the pain gets really bad? I really hope the X rays show something so you don't have to wait for the other tests. Keep everyone informed, okay? Hugs GB
