Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I have been sent a few times by the insurance company (auto accident) for an evaluation by their doctors. I have never had a problem before. The doctor always agreed with my doctors evaluation. About 2 weeks ago they sent me to a different doctor to evaluate pain management. I received the report last week along with a letter saying they would no longer cover further medical treatment. I thought the worst part about my life now was acceting the fact that I can no longer do a lot of what I loved, or just getting through the pain each day. I still need further back surgery. I have already had 2 shoulder surgeries and spine surgery with fusion. My lumbar spine is so bad it makes it difficult to walk some days.
I brought all of my films and medical records with me to the appt. and he never even looked at any of it. He barely examined me, just asked a list of questions from the ins. company. His report says that I am fine!! He states I have full ROM, which is a total lie. He also stated the meds I'm on for pain are not helping...I NEVER said anything like that! I am on disability and have Medicare, but I feel that this report is absolutely false and should be addressed. I just don't know what to do from here.

I'm actually a paralegal & I want to tell you PLEASE do not be offended by the IME from the ins company doctor...I've seen plenty of these reports when our clients are still suffering. The ins company just hopes the person will go away. But be persistent & STAY ON TOP OF YOUR ATTORNEY'S OFFICE! I cannot stress that enough. They need to know what's going on asap. Your attorney should be submitting all of the records from doctors recommending certain treatment to the insurance company demanding same be authorized. Call your attorney every single day...trust me, it's the only way some of these offices "hear" you. Good Luck.

The lawyer I have won't do anything until I get a denial on a submitted bill first. . I spoke with another lawyer who told me that no other lawyer would take this on now because the original auto accident case had settled. He said there's no money in taking this on. My lawyer doesn't put out any money for anything for me. I also saw a similar statement at the bottom of the report from the IME doctor. I'm sure this is a way to cover their asses. At this point, I'm in limbo and just trying not to let myself get as upset as I did originally. As we all know here, stress just adds to the pain. I want to thank all of you for being so supportive with this issue!! It helped so much!! I'll keep you posted on what happens from here. XO

Thanks Mary Anne- I ddid get disability just last year, and it was at the hearing level. This IME was for my auto insurance medical benefits. My doctor explained to me that although I do have Medicare, they will not cover a pre-existing condition, ie: injuries from the accident. My biggest issue is my pain management. That's what this IME doctor was trying to have denied. If I have to, I'll pay out of pocket, but hopefully Medicare will cover it if I lose my fight with the ins. co. My pain management Dr. said the report was ridiculous because it never addressed the pain issue. The report also contained "results" of exams he didn't even perform!
