I never had abdominal adhesions, but from some
Experience removing adhesions can be a two headed dragon. Sometimes it works and other times you regrow MORE scar tissue simply from being cut again and again, this could be why you are feeling worse now.
I heal very well but I decided not to have any more surgeries unless I get an infection.
I have been cut in the same place 5 times and each time they cut, the tissue lose vascular supply.

I've had 15 abdominal surgeries over the last 18 years: 2 C-Sections, Endometriosis lesion removal, Gall Bladder removed, 2 Kidney Stone Removal, Total Hysterectomy, 3 Bladder Surgeries, Appendectomy, Nissan Fundiplication, Esophagus Repaired & Reconstructed, Spleen Removed and Ulcer/Stomach.

I have many, many adhesion's in my abdomen...the thing is, every time you have a Surgery, every time they cut you, you get more adhesion's or scar tissue. I had to have C-Sections because of the Endometriosis lesions and adhesions the surgery caused. Then had to have a Hysterectomy because the Endo got so bad. The Bladder Surgeries were because when the did the Hysterectomy my Uterus was fused to my Bladder and Stomach, from previous surgical Adhesions. I lost most of my Bladder and a good portion of my Stomach and had a Catheter in for 3 months.

So, yeah Adhesions suck and they cause a lot of pain and a lot of problems. This is why most Surgeons don't do any type of Adhesion/Scar Tissue removal surgery, unless its a life threatening situation or they cause other Organs to fail. They know that regardless of what they do, they're really causing as much if not more harm than what they started with.

When medicine advances to the point of Laser's being used in all Surgeries all the time, then Adhesion's/Scar Tissue will be reduced, but until then....each time a Surgeon cuts you, you'll have more Adhesion's.

OlderCPer was it causing trouble that your uterus was fused to your stomach and bladder? I found out my last surgery that my liver was fused to my stomach. When I had my liver laceration I think it just healed to whatever was close to it. They said it's to risky to detach in my small town. But if it's not bothering me than we were just going to leave it alone

3 years is normal for some people, talk to your surgeon. I just had my 1st adhesion surgery since a drastic abdominal surgery 8 years ago. I had alot of adhesions my surgeon took out. Before this last surgery, I found out that stretching for 30 minutes a day helps alot, but talk to your dr. or surgeon about it, it may be time for another. Yes it was causing problems, plus I still had the Endometriosis to deal with. My monthly periods were a nightmare. I also had adhesions from a couple different previous Cancers. So the plan was to completely open my abdomen up with the intention of removing all Endometriosis lesions and do a Total Hysterectomy including my Cervix. I ended up being a 14 hr. surgery. Late that night around 3:00 a.m. My liver and large vessels started throwing blood clots and almost had to go back into surgery....one scene I'll never forget, my OB/GYN, pulling out Catheters and ramming in larger Catheters, when that didn't work he took my staples out of my abdomen right there in the ICU and started scooping big nasty blood clots out, while he yelling at the nurse to get my husbands phone number and hit the auto pain pump, "the morphine button" every 2 minutes. I think that is the closest I've ever felt to actually dieing. Its also the most painful surgical related thing that I've ever been through.

They got me in to Surgery knocked me out cleaned out all of the bloodclots, fixed the liver and large vessels packed the incision site, wrapped it, but didn't close until the next day. I had to 5 Blood transfusions that night, and the clotting was closely monitored through the rest of the night, and knocked me out.

Later that day in the afternoon took me back to the OR, cleaned out all of the packing, made sure there was no active bleeding or clots, checked all that had been stitched off from the original surgery the day before and completely closed me up. I had 3 more Blood Transfusions that night.

I was in UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital for 2 weeks and the day before I was to go home, we discovered that I had developed 2 "Vesicovaginal Fistulas", which are Fistulas that formed between my Bladder and my Vaginal Wall. I was allowed to go home, but I had a Superpubic Catheters (a large Catheter drain came straight out of my stomach above my pubic bones) in my bladder and would have to go back in the Hospital in 6 days to have the Fistullas reparied, and my bladder pieced back together. Had the catheter in for a total of 3 months, in that time I had to go back in for 1 more bladder repair surgery and had to get Stints removed from Ureter tubes and finally was able to begin healing from a Surgery that was supposed to be out from 4-6 week max, and I'd been out for 3 months and couldn't go back to work for another 6 weeks.

If much of it wouldn't have been life of death....I would have ran away!!!! It was easily the hardest thing I've ever been through medically.

Wow! You have been through SO much! Sounds scary and painful! I'm do sorry you have had do many health problems & still have chronic pain.

Thanks Tracy, I definitely got the "total crap body" in the pile. I"m hoping there's not a whole lot left that can break, so the rest of life might be okay.

UniqueFireGirl, one question I did not answer. I would definitely not let them do that type of surgery should you need it, in a small ill-equipped small town hospital. So many things can go wrong....in my Surgery everything that could go wrong did, and had I not been at a Major University Hospital like University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill, I have doubts whether I would have ever made it off that table. So if you decide to get things taken care of, I would make sure its at a large Hospital that has the properly educated Staff and Equipment to handle your Surgery in case any problems arise.
