Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

First thing, I'd like to say is that I do believe that acupuncture is effective treatment. It's been around for thousands of years for a reason.
However.
I have 30 years of chronic pain and I've tried many things. I don't have to try everything to know that something is not going to cure me, especially if it has never cured anyone with chronic migraines before me. With my experience, to try acupuncture at this stage of my migraine disease, with my level of pain is like giving a bandaid to an amputee. So, I choose not to spend my hard earned money on something that I consider will likely be a drop in a bucket. I have enough experience to come to this conclusion.
So I am at peace with this, but what I don't understand is why so many people are so adamantly persistent in shoving their acupuncturist's cards into my hand? All different kinds of people are pushing their Acu's on me and the first thing they say is "my acupuncturist is sooo nice" and then explain how much it has helped them, and then, do I go? and when I politely say no, then" how come," and "you should and why not" and I say simply I don't think it would work for my pain. THEN off they go pushing their practitioner and the miracles that he/she has performed, and what really drives me NUTS is they don't give up pushing me to go!!!!
What is up with this?! Year after year, person after person. I downplay this and don't make a big deal about it and hope they go away, but I get push and push and push. Do they get a finder's fee for bringing in someone? Are they trying to justifly spending all this $$ by seeing if someone else is healed? Is the nice practitioner selling so hard, that they feel they just have to bring someone in? Is the practitioner so nice, they want other people to feel this niceness too? Why do people care that I go see THEIR practitioner so badly?!?!?!
My gosh, I have been given so may Acupuncturist cards over the years. I mean really. I don't want to explain to every person how severe my pain really is and that a few pokes is not going to make a bit of a difference, no matter how super sweet a practitioner is. Besides, who the hell would visit a crabby practitioner?!
Sorry if this has turned into a bit of a rant, but honestly, I would like to know what goes on in those offices that turns people into such pushy advocates. Or is there something else going on that I haven't figured out.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Kidding! lol
It must work for alot of people or something. Why don't you write how you feel about this pushyness on an index card and when someone starts in just hand it to them!
Then tell them now do you get my point? and this is the end of it!
I love the finders fee of your post!
Hugs
i think thiers some kind of religious back ground to it,maybe why pushed so hard,,

I love to recycle.
my tip would be to check the accupuncturist out find out what thier qualifications are the training they went through, so that you dont get a hack
take care
I went to an acupuncturist a few years ago for lupus, and it ended up making my fibro 100x worse. I didn't go back.
I'm deathly afraid of chiropractors. I'm sure there are good ones out there in the sea of quacks, but I'm too afraid to have them 'adjust' me for fear of quadraplegia. But again, I don't doubt that they help some people.
I'd like to believe that people who push a certain therapy on us are just trying to help. But it does get old, doesn't it?

I know it can be really annoying to have people shove things on you so I don't mean to force anything but I think it's at least worth a shot, and you never have to go back if it makes things worse. Like Sandy, the same thing happened to me with a chiropractor. People just kept suggesting it over and over again and I finally tried it but it made things worse. I'm glad I at least tried it, but it's something I'd never want to do again.
To me that is so illogical. It doesn't cure what I have, and the acupuncturist will advertise for migraines, but will not guarantee anything. I know people that go who say that sometimes it makes them WORSE and yet they keep going.
I have zero room for worse and certainly no money to pay for trying it.
