Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Your recovery will depend on several factors but the short answer is - yes, it can get better.
The major factor in your recovery is - was the nerve demyelinated during injury? Was it cut , nicked or compressed ?
During the initial nerve injury the treatment is steroids.
If the nerve is no longer compressed , it will recover.
You may not get the full function back, but it may get better.
When I had a nerve I hurry, I wrote to a specialist at Boston Medical. It was too late for me, but if I did it sooner, my recovery would have been better.
Larger cities have microscopes, they can go inside and examine your nerve to see what the problem is. I wouldn’t wait much longer and start looking.
You need a micro neurosurgeon
Do you mind sharing your story with me?
I meet with a neurosurgeon this month, I'm not sure if its a micro surgeon. I'm hopeful for some real serious answers when I see him.
HAVE YOU SEEN SPECIALISTS ?
HAVE YOU BEEN OFFERED COMPENSATION ?
HOW OLD ARE YOU ?
Sorry I have so many questions to ask, just so I can know a little about you and it is for me in what advice to Gove you.
Answer me and I will.get back to you ASSP.
I am not a professional now but am living with CHRONIC PAIN.
My first surgeon didn’t know what he was doing.
My facial nerve was crushed, compressed, stretched, inflamed and then decompressed. After so much injury it grew scar tissue , so they had to go around it and clean out the scars.
I recovered function and sensation, but I still have terrible neuropathy and pain.
If I knew what I know now, I would have went to Boston immediately.
If it is a regular neurosurgeon, they won’t be able to repair the nerve. Definitely start looking for a microneurosurgeon. The nerve repair surgery takes hours because they have to look under the microscope to see where the damage is and if it can be repaired. If the nerve is cut, they can do a nerve transplant from a cadaver .
Your other options is to wait until the nerve heals and regrows. It can take at least a year. During this time you MUST go for physical therapy and acupuncture.
There is also some thought that Acetyl-l-Carnitine amino acid helps with nerve regeneration, but it is likely BS.
It is in your favor that you are young and chances are you will get better
Do you plan on getting the transplant if the specialist can do it?
If I was in your shoes, I would probably go for it, if the option was there
Have they done an EMG ?
Don't stop until you get answers & until you're working with a medical professional who understands the magnitude of this type of pain. Best of luck!
Waiting and seeing how it heals is about all you can do. There are nerve meds you can try, but mine doesn't respond to any kind of medication.
