Wow Tabby, sorry to hear that. MRSA is some bad stuff. Is it respiratory? Alot of times, people have to go into the hospital for IV Vancomycin. I hope you don't have to, but you will probably feel much better.

Once you get MRSA you have it. You don't get cured, you can take meds to control the outbreaks, but they keep coming back over and over again.

I've been a MRSA carrier for 3 years now. There is a MRSA board here on DS that you can get some good info. from regarding contagiousness and keeping careful.

I am not sure what MRSA is but I don't remember it being great. I am glad they found out. But I am going to look this up. Oh Tabby, if you have this the rest of you life that doesn't sound great. I am however gald that is was missed and what could have happened if it was. No wonder you felt terrible. I am going to educate my self. Hugs out to you . Are you at home or hospital. Well I just googled it. I actually had MRSA but never told it was considered that. I have had folliclitis and had to have them drained when they abcessed and I was hospialized with cellulitis that was very bad. What part of your skin are you haing problems. I mean where is the infection. I have had absecess issues most my live. The last I got from the hospital from a nurse who hadn't washed her hands or from a germy needle.I had no idea this was MRSA. The name scared me and all alone I have had it. my mom had gotten staff infection from hospital staff because they haven't washed there hands way back when changing bandages before everyone wore gloves. I have to even watch my doctor. Make sure he he washes his hands when he come from the last patient. Let me know what it is. I know having abcesses drained are horrible and being the hospital with cellulitis wasn't fun. The strong antibotic burned even with litocane so much that it cause my good arm to swell and get very irritated. Ended up they have to give me oral meds and do hot wraps on my arms and watch me. At least that hospital only had single rooms so no roomate.

MRSA shows up as a pimple looking red spot, with a head on it, it quickly gets larger and turns into an abcess. It's very painful but the quickest way to get it to go down is to keep it drained, along with whichever antibiotic your doc gives you, which is usually Bactrim or Septra. Mine react well to a combo of Septra and a topical antibiotic that i can't remember the name of.

Like I said, I know it hurts like a bi***, but if you keep the abcess open using a large sterilized sewing needle, and keep them drained (yes you have to squeeze them to get all the puss and gunk out) they go away quicker. Always wear rubber gloves when doing this, and to cut down on some of the pain of draining, you can hold ice on the abcess for several minutes before and it numbs it a bit.

Just remember MRSA is highly contagious and can live on surfaces outside the body for a month or longer, like a bathroom counter top, a computer keyboard. You need to be very prudent in keeping clean and sterile so that your mom doesn't get it.

I been told I have follicilitisis, which is an ingrown hair folloical. I put hot compresses on them and use a sterilized needle and open them and pinch them. They do hurt terrible. They have never told me this was MRSA they always said it was a plugged folical but I have had them since seventh grade. The first one I was 11 and I did know what was so it grew to be as big as a gold ball under my air pit. That had to be lanced. Ag that hurt, is an understatement. They stick a needle under it throught the whole thing to know it first and then the cut it open with a surgical knife. They drained it and I glad I couldn't see and packed it with a long strip of sterilized gauze. I had to take out a certain amount of days later. I told my mom I could do it. It looked like i had a whole in my arm pit and the string of gauze kept coming out and out. I almost past out and my mom had to take care of it. My mom has the same things as I do. We have lived together since I was 19. I just never knew any of the things wher MRSA. It suprising. I had all the time and the just call them absess. I did have cellulits a long time ago, not know. I just though it was very crazy that I did know what MRSA was yet I had had it many times. I guess my take after my mom. I guess is true once you have it doesn't go away because it does pop up since I was eleven. I don't have anything know. Tabby has it and I wish her luck.
i am so suprised how ignorant of the fact I actually had MRSA for most of my life and I remember the lady in the office at school telling me I would have it for the rest of my life and I do. Tabby I never would have known if you hadn't posted. Kathy thanks for the advice. I will remember. I pretty much doing that but we it just won't go away I get antibotics but should I get it to go away first and it doesn't then get antibotics? The cellulits I got started right were the nurse jabbed me with a shot in the ER. Hope you feel better Tabby, I am sorry you aren't feeling good. Thanks for the education everyone.
I feel angry now that the doctors never explained this to me instead they where clogged hair folicals. I glad I wasn't stupid and went to the hospital when I had too.

I haven't slept half the night. I have been up on the internet. I am going to go back to bad and take my meds again. My body is killing me from the barometer change. I hurt everywhere. The wind has stopped here. It was brutal last night and I couldn't sleep through it.

Thanks. Stranded I do do have gloves. I have 6 boxes of them My mom is cleaning. everything that I touch to make sure that no one else gets it. Mersa is very contagious and it can be deadly if not treated I have to be very very careful. I am just happy that they know what was making. me feel so bad. The doctor. told me to take it easy and rest. Alot.

so sorry you have mrsa. i know it's bad and very contagious. but i am glad you have a diagnosis, which means that they have a treatment, which hopefully will get you feeling better soon. good luck!

Thanks I just hope that the medicine works. and it goes away My hip hurts. bad today I can't hardly. walk. I do't understand where or how I got MRSA Now I will have it for the rest of my life I don't understand why bad things just keep happening. to me.

My Daughter just went through MRSA and hers got so bad that they had to take her to surgery and drain it, it got so big.. she was in pain for weeks after that and weeks before that because we did not know what it was..

Its horribly painful from what my daughter told me.

Yes Its very Painful Mine is in my hip Which makes it worse because I can't hardly. walk I tried to get into the shower but could not because of the pain
