Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...
I used to get this alot..it's part of the condition. I think it is adrenaline. I find meditation helpful but also Yoga Nidra, which is a guided meditation that gets you into a trance state apparenty equivalent to sleep. I use the ones from the Satyananda Yoga centre website but there are lots on youtube. This guy does a whole series of them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIcfJ_-RNik&list=PL7prWZWA0yI4PEf_7bVqWBpwjwTYHmJfG&index=11 It's best to find one or two that really work for you. I used to use the Satyananda ones to help me sleep too.

I get the "tired but wired" feeling all the time. The tired part is the CFS and the wired part is possibly me feeling cooped up in my body unable to exercise like I used to so mentally, I can go a little nuts. I am definitely overstimulated. This may also be because of Hashimotos.
Anyway, Klonopin is the only med that has ever worked for me to go to sleep and not feel like a zombie the next day. Of course, be careful, as it is physically addicting.
Other more natural things to try are sleepy time tea, melatonin, and L-theanine.
Good luck!
I've taken 4 mgs klonopin for about 20 years. It was given to me for the neurological buzzing and tightening in my head, rather than sleep. I still get wired but tired on klonopin but have other sleep meds.
Doxepin is great for deep sleep and on top of that I take 10 mg Ambien. I've had so many docs tell me Doxepin is really good for you and it's been around forever with no bad side effects.
If I go out to a party at night or even for lunch, I will get wired but tired and no matter how much medication I take it doesn't help me fall asleep.
I assume you're talking about not being able to sleep? Otherwise wired but tired is kind of a false energy experience that isn't so bad unless you want to sleep.
I prefer to live a life and will continue going to parties and just put up with wired but tired. It won't kill me to go without sleep for a night and it's worth it to do something fun.
What works for me is to stop what I'm doing and lie down quietly where I won't be disturbed. This takes some mental discipline, because your mind is telling you to get up and do things.
Often a short rest period of half an hour or so eases the feeling. It only seems to happen to me when I'm tired from something stressful. My advice is to make regular rest breaks part of your routine...that's what helps me and keeps me from getting that strung-out feeling.
