The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...

Some places in this world are lacking sunshine and all those folks are deficient in Vit. D. Not good. They supplement.
We are (I am anyway) often heat intolerant and don't go in the sun much, so I have my levels checked twice a year. I have enough D, so I don't need to supplement!
Yes, even with proper Vit.D in my body, I still have bad brain fog! So the proper level of that vitamin isn't the answer to the whole question of brain fog....but getting it into a normal range, may well help you clear up your mind a bit!!
Also get your Vit. B-12 folate checked. That's another little bugger than we can fall deficient in and "fog up". We really have to stay on the ball with this illness. If only we were up to it.......!!
My doc wanted me to take around 1000 iu per day but i had to tell him that a dose as small as100 iu would make me feel very agitated and my system just did not seem to accept it. As far as I know, that kind of experience is quite rare.
I take a OTC supplement every day now. It hasn't made any difference in my fog or fatigue.
All the best with your course of treatment!
The vitamin D has made no discernable difference in how I feel. No increase in energy or improvement in my neurological symptoms. However, the script meds or supplements I have been taking (antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral and many supplements) have not seemed to help either. Ironically, the only thing that noticeable helped me was taking "Mucinex D" on my own as my lungs and sinuses were so congested.
I just saw a blood test request by an NP in my MDs office in my med files that I keep where she wanted another blood test done 30 days after I started the 10,000 IUs back on 1/31/13 to recheck my Vit D but I was never told to do that. I saw her back on 1/30/13. I saw my MD on 4/3/13 and he said nothing about having my Vit D checked again and just told me to continue on that 5000 IUs/day.
I think the little med clinic where I go is so busy, that I often see small errors written on my medical records which I keep copies of. MDs, NPs and PAs all seem overworked down there and apparently do not communicate with each other about each patient that they all see/treat. That makes me feel less confident about that place.
Interesting that two of you posters were told to take high doses of Vit D once a week where I was told to take a high dose (10,000 IUs) every day. Makes me wonder what is going on and what is the correct procedure?
No amount of fatigue or heat rash can stop me...
Ditto for me.
Mood, however, improves greatly when I get gentle exercise and sunshine outdoors. Vit D supplements, on the other hand. do not help me with mood, energy or brain fog. I just take them during the winter because I live on the Canadian Prairie and am locked indoors...
Personally, I didn't feel any effects from taking Vitamin D. Probably because my levels didn't go up at all. After we found out that my levels didn't go up, my rheumatologist put me back on 50,000IU twice a week for 8 weeks. I'm still in the process of completing this but I honestly haven't been following the directions on taking it because I feel like every time I take vitamin D supplements, I get extremely sleepy and I have to go to sleep or I won't get anything done....does anyone else get sleepy/tired after taking their vitamin D supplement?
Many people cannot tolerate VIt D supplements. In my daugher's case(she is deficient in Vit D and has lupus).....she tried to take it and became very anxious and nauseous. Her doctor told her to stop.
I was put on Vit D3 for a trial run before my CFS diagnosis and I wasn't able to take it either. I became nauseous and lightheaded.
My CFS specialist told me that MANY people are unable to supplement VIt. D. Like any other supplement, each person's reaction is different. It's better to try your best to get 10 minutes of sunlight when you can. Do not think that it's uncommon to have a bad reaction to this supplement. Please tell your doctor and see what he/she recommends! Hope you feel better!!
