Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...

I was wondering if any of you have trouble with sweating when you are not hot. I wake up every night, soaked through, but I'm not hot. I can tell that the room is not too warm. I have noticed that especially when my glands are swollen, I tend to break out into more sweats. Everyone assumes they are hot flashes, but it feels different than a hot flash because I'm not feeling hot at all. I'm just sweating. Anyone else sweating like this? Love you all.

Hi truinfadora, I too have problems with weird sweating and weird hot flashy type things but I don't think they are hot flashes either, they're different! I haven't noticed that it happens when my glands are swollen but i'll be sure to check now that you've said that! Mine seem to be more when i'm more exhausted and pushing too hard! I'm of an age where hot flashes are definitely possible but my doctor hasn't been able to determine what's what....bummer! It'll be interesting to see what other have to say! Glad you posted this! Non-sweaty hugs to you :-)

Yeah, I'm also of the age where hot flashes are possible. I feel it when I push too much as well. That's why ME/CFS is dumb! Smiles to you, ferfer.

I had 8 long, long years of night sweats and hot flashes but testing shows I am menopausal now, and should be all done. I sweat a lot less, but at odd times. I've been thinking for quite some time that is is something based in our adrenals. I might sweat 5 min after I wake up and it might be just random when I am thinking of something that is stressing me out. I think that perhaps pushing too hard, changing from sleep to wake and stress probably all affect our adrenaline/cortisone levels. I think our bodies are just so dang sensitive that we overreact in pretty much every way to normal changes within our hormones and adrenals....

I sweat quite a bit too and also at odd times as well. I'm almost officially in menopause, but this sweating seems a little different to me. Almost like a sensitivity type of sweating if that makes any sense. I can have such exaggerated responses to supplements, medicine, etc. and it drives me crazy.
triunfadora
Okiebug and Nina, thanks so much for your responses. I agree that it could be adrenals or meds. My doc is so frustrated with my exaggerated side effects to meds, but honestly, how is it my fault? Docs just get mad when they can fix something. Thanks for all of your thoughts on this.

I actually used to sweat quite badly at night for no discernible reason when I was in my 20s. I asked the doctor about early menopause but he assured me it was not the case. In fact, I'm still not there now, some 20 or more years later. I figure it had something to do with the CFS, but it doesn't happen any more. Come to think of it though, I had swollen glands a lot at that age too.

Hey baby girl, I had this problem a lot, but now it comes and goes and not often at that. I don't know if this is the cause but I read that it might be a hypoglycaemic attack at night, so maybe eating something with slow burning carbs, a peace of brown toast and whole peanut butter or a few nuts, before bed might help? You know me, my glands go up and down at the drop of a hat. Though all my symptoms can be put down to CFS there is no pattern, no rhyme or reason and there is no warning. I don't know if, even though they are related, whether each symptom acts alone anyway. I guess we live and learn...!

Hello, beautiful Ta11i. I eat a handful of peanuts every night before bed because I had heard about hypoglycemia waking people up at night. It's weird because I've been doing in the daytime now too. Just sweating indiscriminately. And yeah, there's never any warning or any reason I can discern for why sweat is pouring off of me. Cmait, I can believe that it happened before and is not happening now. It's weird how our symptoms can change over the years. CFS seems to act differently every decade :). Oh, well, we move forward. Love you all.

Gidday. Like my English? Lol ! I think that if your glands are swollen when you sweat, it's most likely your immune system is fighting a virus. The swollen glands don't really go with hormonal hot flushes. Adrenal fatigue and night sweats are a common combo though. It's winter here and I still have the aircon on at night because I'm always on fire at night .I dont know why. Now I know I haven't helped much. Sending lots of love though.

Thanks, Di. I think it is my immune system too. I was taking an immune support supplement and I stopped for the summer because I thought it might not work if I took it year-round. I wanted to have it working for flu season. So, I started getting swollen glands and all of this sweating after I stopped the supplement. So, I went back on it. I guess germs still get me going in the summer too. That's why ME/CFS is dumb! Well, that and other reasons.

That is so true for me. I sweat so badly some nights I change pj's like 3 times. From head to toe. I can't go back to sleep in the same spot I just woke up cos its not just damp, its wet. Have also noticed that the hectic sweating coincides with swollen glands. I have ME and MS so thought the hectic sweating was a reaction to my MS injections. So I changed interferons but sweating continued. It wouldn't bother me so much but I find the worse I sweat the worse I feel the next day. I wake up in the morning feeling like I just ran a marathon.
triunfadora
Ah, squishy. I feel that! Yes, I do feel weaker the next day after the sweating. I'm sorry to hear that you have both ME and MS. That must be terrible. They're both ridiculous. Keep your chin up.

I think this it is your immune system, as well. My daughter, Misty, has 5 autoimmune diseases & is going through the same thing. Swollen glands & sweating all night but not from heat. She sweats until she gets the chills from it. I can see where our illness could be in that immune category. I was sweaty with my hormones when I went through menopause but there was a lot of heat with it, so I am no help there. Maybe it is one of your other illnesses causing this? May be something you should check out. Hugs, Denise

I think it's the body trying to detox, because that's a problem for us.
triunfadora
Detoxing--I hadn't considered that. Thank you for bringing that up. I'm certainly full of toxins, despite the fact that I try to avoid them when I can. Much love.
