They have many swallowing issues and alot of neck issues.
There was so much swelling in "my pipes" that I was literally suffocating........so if you have not had an endoscopy I would discuss it with a gastroenterologist soon.............it's important to rule things out and to take really good care of your dear self.........hugs.
I've recently lost quite a bit of weight. With the weight loss, the acid reflux went away almost completely ... I no longer need prescription medication nor do I have to watch my diet for that. With the relief from the acid reflux, swallowing became even easier. I still occasionally choke a little when I try to swallow, but it is negligible compared to how it was before we discovered the ring, and before I lost the weight.
It's not uncommon for rings to form in the esophagus that result in a narrow passageway. If you happen to have an esophageal ring, or rings, an internal med. doctor can stretch the ring, which will provide tremendous relief. Honestly, I hope you have an esophageal ring. Unless a ring is very severe, it is a minor procedure to stretch the ring during the endoscopy.
Whatever your problem is, I hope it is something minor with a simple remedy, and that you find the right doctor to help you.
I have looked up Barretts and it is possible that it could be that, however a lot of the information I found didn't say difficulty swallowing was a symptom?
I'll try to explain what happens when I eat. After the food gets pushed to the back of my throat and it's down in the osopagus, that's where the problem occurs. It's an effort to push the food down from there. As I mentioned swallowing trouble has been since March but I didn't feel anything while I wasn't eating, however this week I can feel the lump/tightness whatever it is, all the time and really badly after drinking or trying to eat.
I have had very bad reflux in the past as my first symptoms of cfs was really bad food intolerances, however once I cut out that food I was still prone to burping if I ate too much, which compared to many wasn't a lot.
Does this sound similar to your swallowing difficulties? I'm going back to the Dr today.
I do have difficulty swallowing. I have chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia,
About the swallowing. Certain foods get caught in my throat and general difficulty swallowing both solids and liquids. I have had endoscopy which was showed gastric reflux. I find the days I am flaring do seem to be worse, although the difficulty swallowing is present all the time.. I have found that tucking my chin back or down to my chest seems to help with swallowing.
I wish you well!
