I also have shortness of breath. I find myself gasping at odd moments, even when I have not done anything active at that moment. I do have sleep apnea. I almost feel as if I forget to breathe in the daytime as well and then suddenly I have to gasp for air. I have not seen a pulmonologist, but it sounds like a good idea. Let us know what happens. I had a sleep test done and it showed I have hypopnias (not sure that's how it's spelled) rather than apneas - in other words, my breathing passages narrow significantly but do not close completely. The doctor I saw about it (I'm not sure if he was a pulmonologist or just a specialist in sleep apnea) said I still needed to use a CPAP machine. It took a long time to get used to and if my back is playing up or my nose partly blocked (allergies), I can't use it, but when I can use it properly I feel much better the next morning.

I also went through a period of time when I was frequently short of breath for no discernible reason and the tests I had relating to that all came back that there was no problem - but that didn't stop it from happening. Some little while into/after that, I did have chest pain and was found to have multiple pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs) and it was after that was treated that the problem gradually went away, but they claim there was no way I could have been walking around for months with those blood clots. Apparently I was lucky to even survive. Just one can kill you.

Sorry, I don't mean to alarm you with that sort of talk, but those are the facts. I know that I have lost so much of my fitness that it doesn't take much to get me out of breath nowadays and for quite a while I wondered if it was just that which was causing the shortness of breath. Now I really just don't know what was going on.

92% is not good. Maybe not "need cpap" bad but maybe a nose strip at night if you breathe through your nose. I'd say the shortness of breath is possibly that lack of O2 at night combined with what my doc calls "lazy breathing". We're so tired we breathe in a shallow diaphragmatic way instead of belly breathing. Maybe get an O2 sensor for your finger. Check it a couple times a day for a while. If you get to 95%, sit and take a few really deep breaths, slow in, hold, slow out. Then check it again. Mine ususally goes up to 98 or 99% and I feel much better. best wishes

Hello BlueBonnet08, I had my lungs tested by my primary care doctor last month because I
have shortness of breath. She said I fell in the 'low' category and was given an inhaler to use
before I exercise. I also had my lungs x-rayed and they came back good Tomorrow I'll have a
stress test by a cardiologist and another test next week. I've had a lot more weakness lately,
especially when going up stairs. So we'll see. I don't know if this is the same as what you're
experiencing but some of it sounds similar. It seems like this is common from what people are
posting on here. I know how frustrating it can be because it can be difficult to sort out.
I had asked that they prescribe me an oxygen tank to use, but they don't do that unless
you fall below 92? I could be off on this number. I know several people who've bought
oxygen concentraters, machines which they breath through at night. I actually have one but
stopped using it as it's quite noisy. Also I didn't like breathing through silicon hoses. Good
