Has anyone used Mucinex as a treatment for cfs? I have just recently heard of this and have been reading reviews. If so, what was or is your experience? Thanks in advance for your input.

I can't imagine that would be good for CFIDS, it's supposed to be for congestion and mucus. Why would it be good for CFIDS?

Yes, there is a whole protocol you follow for this. I for one tried this. Did nothing for me.
Its suppose be helpful fo many w/ fibro from what I have heard.

Yes. There are many people who swear they have been healed by the drug Guaifenesin which is the active agent in Mucinex. This protocol is being advanced by an endocrinologist out of California by the name of Dr. St. Armand. He wrote a couple of books on Fibro and CFS. He also suggests many fibro/cfs people, he thinks it is the same disease, are actually hypoglycemic and have sugar intolerance. He suggests a non sugar high protein diet. I am sure if you google him you will find his web site.

I have read his books and abide by his diet pretty strictly and have had significant reductions in symptoms...it HAS NOT HEALED my cfs but some of the symptoms seriously mitigated or disappeared on his diet...namely...my IBS and Vertigo were lifted after less than two weeks on the diet...

I never did the Guafinesin...because a research study indicated the number of people who experienced healings with Gua. were equal to the number of people who experienced healings with a placebo....Those who experienced healing are enthusiastic supporters of Dr. St. Armand....

It's for mucous, I use it for my sinuses, cause i have bad allergies, but doesn't do anything for cfs. I never heard that one, interesting.

Thank you for the info Andrew, I have read that many who have tried the Mucinex, have had really bad experiences and have had to be hospitalized. But on the other hand, it has worked for so many. I have also read you have to be on it for years. I guess it's something you would have to discuss seriously with your doctor. I appreciate all the feedback. I will check out the website and the diet.
