Context : i have had a persistent pain in my abs since last june. 8-9docs visits, a raft of tests, no answers. Saw a gynae in Jan, thought he was an asshole, determined not to go back.
Been trying for months to get results of test done in Jan, they insist i come in, i say i dont want to, send me the damn results. This week the doc calls to say i have to come in because my test was abnormal and i need surgery.
Ok .. So i go in. Surgery is no big deal, moving on to the pain in my side. At this point it is nagging and consistent and has escalated over the past few months. Pain radiates through my left leg from groin, to knee, to ankles. I limp noticeably most days. Pain radiates up my ribcage, my left breast is swollen and tender, even the teeth on my left side hurt. My tummy is swollen and puffy and the left side is hot to the touch. The internal exam was again extremely painful particularly when a certain area is manipulated.
The doc did his exam and proclaimed that all the above is caused by ..drumroll please.. ANXIETY. He actually told me to take some panadol and try to relax.
OK .. I've had hours to think on my response and this is what I'd like to say to this doctor ...
My son just turned 13. He is the sweetest kid, he is handsome, smart and just a kind and generous spirit. Wherever i go people speak about how special he is, they always say he has a bright future ahead. I am proud and so grateful to have him.
I have a job that i love. It is exciting and stimulating and rewarding. I go into office so jazzed each day .. But i only go in twice per week because my body wont keep up.
I have been working on my dream home for 7 years. I can see it coming together all i need now are the finishing touches to make it beautiful. I am grateful every day to enjoy the fruits of my labour and look forward to realizing my vision.
I was part of an affluent social circle that contributes significantly to society. We have built surgical units on hospitals, brought in world reknown specialist to perform rare operations on children. We house the elderly, we work with inner city high schools. I was a teacher, a mentor, a friend and a heck of a partier. I've had to give it all up because my body wont keep up.
I have friends and family who love and support me. I often hurt their fellings because i cant be there for them when they need me.
I have lived a full, rich and fulfilling life .. And i watch it being taken from me piece by piece. I am a limping shell of the person i used to be because my body is failing.
And with all your years of medical school, your vast experience, your informed judgement is that i need to pop some painkillers and RELAX?!?

Good luck on finding out how to feel better. CFS people are by definition reacting poorly to stress and we do feel worse all too easily. Finding help is frustrating. Good luck. Hugs and love.
So many doctors these days are negligent and speculate far too often, and finding one with a brain and a heart is becoming rare indeed.
Many years ago I went to my first heart specialist, who was rushed, abrupt, and after a quick examination assured me that my heart was fine.He then speculated that I was living alone and feeling depressed.His words were" So you live by yourself huh?And then he said" Oh the fatigue is from depression." I replied that I was in a long term marriage and had two children who also lived with me.I also explained that I was feeling depressed because of my debilitating fatigue and did not have clinical depression .
Anyway, I decided to get a second opinion and saw another, this time, lovely heart doctor.He discovered I had arythmia, weak pulse and leaking heart valves.Also a 24hr monitor revealed that my heart rate was too slow and he considered it dangerous and was considering a pace maker.He repeated the monitor a week later and my heart rate had increased, so the pacemaker was cancelled.I still believe it slows down when I'm severely crashed.
Anyway , that is just one of my many stories of negligence and speculation where doctors don't deliver to the expected level.So yes max, ,definately find a new one.I also believe your doctor was legally obligated to contact you and reveal the test results.He should be sued.
