I also have some weak adrenals and CFS and it looks that your husband has some of the same issues. The problem with getting CFS diagnosed is that it is just a name. More important is finding a cause. I myself started to use some supplements in order to find out if it was an shortage of nutrients. So i started to take some magnesium, vitamin E and vitamin C and the vitamin C was my big rescue and in my case was a way in to discover my bad adrenals. I use a natural vitamin C with bioflavonoids this one: http://www.voedingssupplementennederland.nl/en/now-c-1000-caps-with-100-mg-bioflavonoids-250-caps-ww.html. I do not know how to make this link clickable, but i know how hard it can be to find a good supplement.
So find the cause, that is the most important thing you can do! I hope your husband gets better!
