I do not have anything against vitamin C. I take it myself. And the body does need vitamin C.
I would ask this doctor why do you need vitamin C to be administered intravenously?
Vitamin C is water soluble. It can be absorbed through the stomach and intestines easily. You could get the same "benefit" taking a lot of vitamin C pills. But i would not do that.
First, whatever excess vitamin C that is in the body is oxidized and quickly eliminated from the body through the kidneys. You would be paying for vitamin C that you would be peeing out the next day. Also, too much vitamin C metabolites in the kidneys will cause kidney stones. Do you want that?
Another thing to consider is iron in your body and diet. Too much vitamin C in the body can cause a condition called iron overload. But this depends on other things.
If you have kidney problems, do not do this.
Vitamin C acts is an antioxidant. But it is only one. There are a lot more. In that capacity, vitamin C is beneficial. It plays many roles in the body. But i do not think it would cure CFS. Even if you went through with this treatment, within days, the vitamin C amount in your body would be right back to what it is normally. And you probably would not feel any better than you do now.
Please reconsider this treatment. Take vitamin C in pill form daily and you will be alright as far as vitamin C goes. I think to fight CFS, we need various different things in addition to vitamin C, and other antioxidants. I do protein therapy. Ask your doctor about that. Or some other treatment for CFS.
That is my take.
I had IV vit C for awhile - every 3 weeks. My Dr. recommended it to kill off infections, especially candida. I do believe it did do that, but did nothing else for my CFS. I had to stop because of cost & lack of improvement.
I think my IVs 25,000 mg, so much more than can be taken orally. My blood was checked periodically to make sure kidneys, etc were ok.
That said, I take so much because I used to have constant sinus infections & tried everything else...nothing worked & high does Vit C was suggested to me.....tried it & it worked, stopped taking it & wound up with sinus infections again, tried it again & it worked, stopped & had sinus infections.....so I have stayed on it & have no issues with my kidneys or any other problems from it......I did gradually increase to that amt, though.....would never advise starting with that much
also, I have been doing this since long before getting sick with CFS, so if it were a cure, i never would have gotten sick....it can certainly help with associated viruses, and otehr issues, but it won't cure the CFS
Well, since there isn't a whit of evidence linking low vit c with our illness I would say "save your money" instead.
