I've been shopping for health insurance (the individual policy I'm on is only short term) and besides the really expensive state pool plan, I've only found one other carrier who would accept me with my health conditions-- and then only with limited benefits only. I would have a waiting period for pre-existing conditions (with CFS being the biggest one), and then after that they would cover any pre-existing conditions except anything classified as dealing with the mental or nervous systems.
My question is this: Is CFS classified as a mental or a nervous system disorder? I've heard about it being viral, being the limbic system in the brain not working properly, cell function being reduced/impaired etc. But I'm not getting a direct answer.
Can anybody help me on this? I'm wondering if they would automatically lump the CFS under mental or nervous...and I only have so much energy to fight battles with insurance companies, so any advice or help would be appreciated.

My doctor gave me a choice to be "officially" diagnosed and said it was best to not have it in my records unless a treatment became available or if I wanted to get disability. You should talk to the doctor who diagnosed you and see how traceable your diagnosis really is.

I am very sure it would be seen as a nervous system condition.

I have to agree with Kat here. The diagnosis of CFS is so vague right now, and there is no treatment for it. Try not to be painted with the "CFS brush."

Hmmm...I didn't know you had a choice to be "officially" diagnosed or not, that's interesting news to me. For me and my situation, since I'm single and have not able to work for the last 20 months, I've had to hire a disability lawyer and apply for Social Security Disability since my medical leave status from my job runs out this month. So I guess I have to be painted with the paintbrush for that process. It's all a crazy and sticky situation to be stuck between and to be shopping for new health insurance. :(

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
