I never heard of it, but it doesn't sound like much fun. Did they have any treatment options for you? I'll pray for you. I really hope you get to the bottom of all of this and that there could be some help for you.

Thank you Triunfadora,, i only got B12 shot for my energy even the blood test show my B12 not low but i can't feel any different still have no energy,, all Dr. said just to Google about that (CMV)..

I haven't been tested for that, either! Sorry to hear you tested positive and hope the silver lining is that means they can treat you in some way....

Hi masrea, yes I have both CMV and EBV both showing in my blood tests.However, they are no longer active according to my doctor.There is an antiviral medication for the CMV and EBV.Although both viruses are not active my doctor did give me Valtrex which is an antiviral for the EBV, ,however would not give me the antiviral med for the CMV.He said it was destructive for the liver and he was not favourable.I do often wonder if these viruses are still causing my CFS.I am so ill at present, totally bedridden for weeks, and just so lost with what to do..Please keep in touch and let me know your outcome with the CMV Wishing you well.xo

I have that virus and 5 others showing up extremely high on my bloodwork. My ME doctor says that they are reactivated. I'm not contagious now because I had the actual illnesses years ago and she said most adults have had all these viruses. She explained the reactivation as all those viruses are having babies because my immune system is so damaged that it can't control them. She said, "no wonder you are so sick!"

I am just so happy that SOMETHING showed up in bloodwork. I am tired of feeling like people think I am exaggerating when I tell them how sick I am. BTW- my doctor is Dr. Rey and she is incredible. I feel so blessed to have her on my side. She is Dr. Klimas' associate at the Neuro-Immune Institute. If you can get an appointment with either of them, it will be so worth it. They both GET IT!

I forgot to tell you how Dr. Rey is treating me (thanks aussiedi!). She started me on 250 mg of Famcyclovir 2x a day. That was about 4 months ago and so far, I can't tell that it is helping at all. She said that is what she expected because she has me on such a low dose. Evidently, if you kill off the viruses too quickly, you will feel even worse so she is going to increase the dose slowly. I have to get blood work done every 3 months to check my liver function because this med can affect the liver.

Dr. Rey also thinks I may have some type of muscle disease so she sent me to the University of Miami to see a really good rheum there (this doc has sent me to two others so I will have a total of 3 docs from UM trying to figure me out). I think Dr. Rey is holding off on some treatments until I get everything else ruled out. So right now, I am in a holding pattern. I go see one of the docs there again in about 3 weeks.

CMV and EBV show up on my tests too. Nothing is to be done about them but at least something odd turns up which is a bit of a comfort.

I have CMV, but not EBV......with me I have added symptoms every time i go out.......looks and feels like a bad flu on top of the usual flu-like symptoms that come with CFS.

if i have anything else brewing than my usual low body temp will drop to as low as 94 degrees which kind of freaks me out.........sorry, just woke up, feeling spacey, i attribute the freaky low body temp to CMV, but i don't know if that is the reason why or not.....hugs for your journey Masrea!

I tested so far for HHV 6 and took valacyclovir which made me very sick.

I have titers for three viruses: Epstein Bar Virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Human Herpes Virus - 6 (HHV-6). According to this article (http://pathmicro.med.sc.edu/virol/herpes.htm), all are variations of the herpes virus. It states, "Once a patient has become infected by herpes virus, the infection remains for life. The initial infection may be followed by latency with subsequent reactivation." Explains the ups and downs of CFS. I have considered, but have not tried, anti-viral meds.
