I also have a lot of pain and that wakes me frequently during the night. I have a very difficult time in the morning and so don't try to nap because I only want to go through the morning phase once a day.
Any sleep I do get doesn't seem to be restful sleep. I have nightmares and have to move around because of pain.
My cat sleeps all day long and I'm so jealous...
I do take short naps during the day. Today I laid down for a short rest and woke up three hours later...LOL. That's not my usual thing.
After that long nap, I felt like I belonged in intensive care. It took me several hours to recover from it.
I like Richie's comment about sleep debt that needs to be paid. I've had three bad nights in a row, and I'm paying today. :0/
Some days I cannot stay awake and doze all day. Most days I may not take a nap at all.
My sleep is all over the place...I've had insomnia forever! Mostly onset problems...but I do wake up a number of times per night.
Does everyone here wake up during the night? Maybe that's normal.
I went to a sleep specialist about 9 years ago. He started me on xyrem (sodium oxybate) and it knocks me totally out. I go to bed around 11 pm every night and wake between 7 and 9 am. It's quite enough as it's got all the stages of sleep. I also ude a vpap machine for obstructive and central sleep apnea. Big help for deep sleep.
Please, find a specialist. Now I see a neurologist who has a sleep clinic. It could save your life, I know it does, mine!
Taking benadryl each night at 8 seems to help me sleep through the night. Also, we have changed out sleeping arrangement so that we each have our own top covers but sleep on the same king bed. He was yanking my covers during the night (he has restless leg syndrome) and it was waking me. With each our own covers it works out well. I sleep much more soundly.
