CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
My turn to ask for prayer...

Well, first of all this has nothing to do with my ES. This is about my daughter's two year old. He seems perfect in every way except he has little to no speech. I mean he is noisy, but no real words other than "ba-ba" (for bottle, which they stopped giving him) and he will wave and say "bye bye". I have heard him say "mama" a couple of times but he is not consistent. If you ask him where his nose is, he can point to that, and he can give high fives, claps, makes eye contact, and plays with kids, but no speech. Well I have been concerned for awhile, but my daughter just said I was a worrier and blew me off. Well today was his 2 year old checkup and his pediatrician reffered him to ECI (early childhood intervention) where they come to his house and evaluate him. Of course it could be anything, but I am scared to death of autism. As so of course I googled it and saw all sorts of videos and it scared me even more. I know if he did have autism, it would not be the end of the world, but she is very scared now, and actually so am I. And I am just scared to death, and I know I should not be, but I am. I am sitting here crying as I type this! I don't know when the people will come to her house, but I am sure soon. Just please, please pray. I am almost afraid to see my daughter now for fear of falling completely apart.

Thanks everyone. The people from Early Childhood Intervention haven't been out to my daughter's house yet. I guess the wheels move slowly...she did receive a letter saying they would be sending a packet out soon, explaining her rights as parents, and so forth. Honestly, from everything I have read (I know I shouldn't) it seems like almost everything nowadays puts people "on the spectrum". If you have any little quirks at all, you are labeled. I hate that! Yes, he does have some autistic traits, but now that i think about it, so did my ES and even my youngest son. Neither of them talked much until the age of 3. Anyway, I have felt calmer about it. And he did come up with a new word (if you call it that). He can say "uh oh" now. But this is the weird thing...he won't say it if he drops something, or stumbles, like in an ordinary way. He has a book, and in the book there is a page that says "uh oh" and he will drag out that book, open it, turn to that page, point to it, and say "uh oh". Every single time.

God bless this child. So much can be done for speech today. Early intervention is the best plan.
