You will get through it. We are stronger than we think. If you "are not allowed" to bring his father then I personally would not attend. We can't continue to let them dictate our lives and the ridiculous rules and conditions they place upon us, really? I am so sorry you are distraught, I would be too. I can relate to being up most of the night, I wrote a journal entry to my grandson at about 4am this morning. Keep writing, keep feeling, keep you head up and give it to God, only he knows the purpose in this. We can't fix them, we can only work on ourselves and try to live a healthy, happy, loving life. My thoughts and prayers are with you, things happen for a reason although I haven't figured it out yet either. I just keep telling myself that there is SOME purpose to this challenge we are facing. Hang in there and take care of yourself!

So sorry things have not changed. This is an event that should be a joyous one for both parents and their children. I would feel the same way that you do right now. Just know that we are here and care about you and what you are going through.

Soverysad, I feel for you, and can relate totally. I'll reiterate what the others said. All we can do is keep our chins up and do our best to enjoy life. Do something fun this weekend even though you'd rather just curl up in a ball and stay in bed likely. Go dancing, go to the beach, go out with girlfriends…whatever it is that makes you happy. I believe this estrangement thing is nothing but spiritual warfare and what I do when I'm really down is have a cry then resolve to get myself going, hard as it is at times. Don't let the devil have victory! Tell him to take a hike and go out and be happy in spite of what's going on!

I agree with CanadianMothe.... when our son told us we were not invited to the groom's dinner and they would not even tell us where it would be, we decided to have our own party. My DH paid for my sister and her family and our other son at a nice restaurant. We had our "own" groom's dinner.

Perhaps you could go visit some friends who live out of town, or just the 2 of you plan something special. But don't be afraid to cry, then get up and put some happiness in the day. My prayers are with you.

Are you able to get away somewhere fun--or do something really fun? I think that's a great plan!

Psalms 16:8
"I have set the Lord always before me.
Because He is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken."

Psalms 20 is also so good.

Sovery, please keep remembering that you and your DH did nothing to deserve this bad treatment. It is not about you it is about your son. Our EC are in rebellion to God. This is no way to start a marriage. One day our EC may listen to God and be obedient.

Our ED is engaged. DH and I will not attend the wedding (if it takes place) unless we are honored as parents Biblically should be.

God be near to you both with His peace this weekend.

I know exactly how you feel. My ED is getting married on Saturday, but I don't even get any type of communication from her. I hope you find something fun to do on Saturday and DO NOT let the sadness ruin your day. I am going with my husband to a Poker Run for charity and we'll be out all day!! I know God will help me throughout the day, keeping me strong for the ones that truly love me no matter what! I hope you know you have others that love you!!

Mine was awesome, until I got home and found out via FB that my ex (he's not even the father of my girls) was there and so was the grooms' mother who sexually molested him, but she gets to go! And because I wasn't jumping for joy and so happy when I was told of the engagement, I've been cut out of their lives for almost 2 years. I don't deserve this treatment from them and won't give them anymore time in my life!

Many, many of us can testify - this too will pass ! It is so, so, so hurtful. We know. We feel your pain.

Please know that your pain and sadness are Understood, and that many of us have remembered and will be remembering your needs for His Comfort. Our ever-present, never-failing Father who has watched over far more stray children than we can fathom, including these two who married this week-end (today?) -- and you, and me ! In Him, By Him, and through Him -- we are loved, wanted, forgiven, and valued.

Thinking of all you dear parents who should have been honoree this weekend by their EC. I am a year away from our ED's wedding. This is not God's way. It is the way of the enemy. May God pour His grace upon you and give you His Shalom.

My husband and I took a trip, had a nice dinner and had as good a time as we could considering the pain we were in. This morning I was hit in the face with the photos. Son and his wife have unfriended me but I saw pictures on one of his friends page. To think we missed such an important event in his life is so hard. I am just sick. People keep telling me he will come back around one day but I truly don't think he will or even if he wants to, she won't let him. Thank you for your prayers.

soverysadmom - I am just so sad for you and your DH. God didn't plan it this way. My DH and I were hoping our ES would come around one day but knew in our heart his wife would not let him. It has been years and now that he has learned his father has cancer, he still refuses to reconnect.

I hope your ES will come to his senses. You are in my prayers.
