I am really struggling with my decision to make my son pay rent if he moves back home again. He is 28, & is heartbroken, I get that. BUT, I want him to learn how to cope on his own. I decided last night, REALLY decided to hand him over to God, & prayed that he give my son strength & hope. I haven't heard anything else from him. I keep having visions of him OD'ing or cutting himself, etc. something to kill/hurt himself. He was angry when I told him about paying rent. I told him I loved him, & was praying for him. It isn't supposed to be so difficult to hand your troubles over to God. I keep remembering all the times he has verbally abused me in the last 12 years. He has been very hateful. Does anyone else have such a hard time handing it over to God?

Tikva - I agree with you. They treat us so badly because they know they can. They would NEVER say those things to their friends for fear of rejection. The old saying "you hurt the ones you love the most" fits here, although they would never admit it.

Let these EC wonder why we aren't interested in their childish behaviors.

We are all going through rough, yet different situations. It makes me sad that children no longer have any respect or appreciation. My dad was a verbally abusive severe alcoholic & said many things to me to diminish my self-esteem. He was never there for us, he raised us from a bar stool. Still, I have NEVER been disrespectful to him or told him off. I was a good mother, I honestly was. I know I wasn't perfect & made mistakes, but nothing to merit this punishment.

gordos4 - we were and are all good parents but we were and are up against a mountain of entitlement taught to our children by the media, schools, etc. They have such a "holier than thou" attitude taught to them, not by us their loving mothers and fathers but by outside influence.

We need to never tstop praying for these EC who are temporarily lost.

I think that is very much the problem Norske1. Our culture makes parents out to be unnecessary and outmoded. We have taught our children that they are the center of the universe, and they have believed it. When I watch television, I notice that most of the people portrayed are young and beautiful. And of course, just like the latest electronics, everything demands an upgrade. Parents cannot be upgraded, and so they move on to another set. They don't even realize that they are leaving behind a love that is without end.
