CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
I so feel your pain. My son moved out of our home but I still had our 6 year old chocolate lab. She was my dog--she would wait for me to get ready in the morning and come running when I came out, when I came home at night she would search the house once she was let in to find me, she would get up beside me or lay in my lap while watching tv (all 75 pounds of her), she would come out of her crate in the morning and lick my face or hand --whatever she could get to. But she also loved my son -- every night until he moved out I could tell her to tell her brother goodnight. She would jump up on the couch, put her paws on the edge of the recliner he was sitting in and she would lick his face, then jump down and go to her crate where she slept. Since I was so devastated about our son moving out -- he never told me he intended to do so and the circumstances I found out about it were not good, I had 2-1'/2 weeks to adjust to the idea -- I still had the dog who loved me and needed me to take care of her. One week shy of three months to the day after he moved out she got suddenly sick. It was diagnosed as pancratitis. Some dogs recoverr, some do not. Ours did not. She hung on for a week and we tried everything to save her. The vet told me most dogs would have died within 48 hours but she lasted 6-1/2 days. We were finally told that her blood count was getting so low that she would begin to bleed internally. I could see red patches coming up on her skin where she had been shaved, her eyes were getting bloodshot, so I could see what they were saying beginning to happen. We had to put her to sleep exactly 12 weeks after he moved out so she would not suffer with the internal bleeding. It was absolutely the hardest thing I have ever done and I miss her every day. I, too, do not understand why she had to go. I needed her as much as she needed me. I loved her and I truly felt that she loved me. So, I can so sympathize with you. I still cry 10 months later and dream of her sometimes. Everyone tells me that time will heal as it usually does but I have not gotten there yet. Hugs to you over the next few weeks. Take pictures and spend as much time with her as you can so that you will have those memories. Praying for you.
