Four months ago I came into contact with an orange color feral cat who came to eat the dry cat food that I put on the step of our front door outside the house. After he came on a regular basis, I became very emotionally attached to him and tried to figure out how I would be able to help him survive in the winter. I could not get near him without him walking away but I could see that he became more and more trusting towards me. Then about a month ago, the weather suddenly became very cold and he disappeared. I figured he either died or moved to a warmer place to hide from the cold weather.
Because of many past experiences of parting with the cats that were our indoor cats I think I got hit with some sort of PTSD symptom when this feral cat pal of mine suddenly disappeared. I missed him badly and blamed myself for not moving faster in my plan to help him. Before he disappeared he lived in my neighbor next door's small unused RV with another stray/feral female calico cat and her kittens. I went through severe depression because of the sudden parting of this orange feral and prayed to God every day asking Him to protect this cat and keep him warm if he was still alive. I felt there was a big chance that he had died. I did not set up the feral cat house for him (the one I prepared for him) because of a few reasons and couldn't take him in because of the four cats that are inside our house, and he would not let humans go near him. I regret not setting a cat house for him.
Then three days ago, after it snowed for four days straight, I woke up to see footprints of cats on the steps and front yard. I thought the cat must have come but I was not sure it was him. I quickly set up that cat house that is made from a cooler on one wall of our house next to the front yard. It took me many hours to put everything together, and it was getting darker and cold (about 6:00 p.m.). About an hour close to when I was about to finish what I was doing with the cat house setting up, the cat showed up on the sidewalk next to the front lawn. I tried to tell him I had put cat food for him on the step but he was scared and walked away. I was so happy to see him again. As I finished with the cat house, he walked past me towards the backyard and stopped and looked at me while I called him. I did my usual hand gestures and voice to tell him there was food for him on the step. I had to walk back inside the house before he would come to the food. I was very happy to see him again. He did eat the food and left.
I have been putting food out for him but never saw him again yet. There are two other cats that came to eat the food. The food I put out was eaten every day but I don't know whether he came or not. It appeared that he moved further away on the same block but I don't know the exact spot. I am guessing it could be someone's shed or garage. I am still trying to figure out how I can help him to survive the winter. I asked my daughter to check on some wireless video camera to put near the food bowl so I will know whether the cat has been coming to eat the food. Today the food was eaten twice. The two other cats have places next door to live at and can get to our house quickly. They must be coming to eat the food. I hope we can get a camera soon so I will know whether this orange feral cat pal of mine has been coming back to eat the food. I felt much better after seeing the cat after losing hope of him still being alive. I will give everyone updates on how things go with this pal of mine. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving.

According to His riches in glory refers to a biblical promise found in Philippians 4:19, which states that God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. This verse emphasizes God's provision and generosity towards believers.

I became emotionally attached so much to him. The main problem is he would not let humans get close to him; otherwise, I would try to let him come inside the house and see whether he can stay on the porch. I am waiting for the camera. I will know whether he still comes. I will have to clear the porch if I will let him come inside. There is no space on the porch for him right now. I don't think he will come in. I miss him very much and the thought of him dying out there in the cold really kills me. This is the first time I saw how a homeless cat struggles to survive. It is heart-wrenching. Those other outdoor cats next door will eat the food that I put out and won't let him eat, I didn't put food out unless my feral pal showed up (The guy next door feed them). I don't know whether he will come back again but I am thinking every day about how I can help him and feel the only thing I can do is pray for him and give him food when he shows up. I will let everyone know how things go with this cat. Thank you for replying to my post. If you are new here, welcome to the group. I hope you have a nice weekend.
When I used to give him food on a regular basis, the way it worked was he would come to sit on our yard at a particular spot to wait for me and knew that if he saw me he would get food. I didn't put food out when I didn't see him because there are other cats and animals around that would come to eat the food. Then one day a mom tabbie cat next door came to push him away right when he was eating and would not let him eat. He started to have problem from that but still came after retreating for a few days. The latest thing that messed the whole thing up for him was the sudden cold weather. I didn't set up the cat house for him earlier for a few reasons and before I got to it he had to run away from the cold weather to find a new place to live.
I lost hope of ever seeing him again after he disappeared for about close to a month. I kind of have an idea of where he is at right now but don't know the exact spot and don't think I can find it. He was around for about three months, and I have lots of memories of him. He is the kind of feral that will not let you get near him. I don't know whether he ever was once an indoor cat.
It is going to be almost impossible for me to get him to come inside our house mainly because he will not get in close contact with humans. Also, us having four indoor cats is a real problem.
The only time that I ever heard him utter any sound was that one day, before I started to feed him on a regular basis, when he was very distressed from not finding food and cried with a loud howling sound as he walked towards our backyard. A lady neighbor told me before that she heard him cry very loud at night in her yard which sounded like a cry for help.
I think he has been wondering why I have not tried to help him as he is facing all kinds of troubles (fighting to survive). I just read two days ago that an insulated shed with straw inside can keep outdoor cats warm enough in the winter. We don't have a shed, just an old garage that is in the process of being torn down very soon because of the collapsing roof.
At this point, I am hoping he is living in a warm place somewhere and can find enough food to eat. That cat house is made from a cooler (I bought it from an online seller). For now it is for the purpose of giving him a place to go into to hide from the cold when he comes by. We have an unused old car sitting in the yard that he went under.
It has been for me a very strange experience to have met this cat and became extremely attached to him emotionally. He is to me like a human child. Well, thank you for talking to me about this cat. It has been very difficult for me to witness so closely a homeless cat fighting to stay alive and to part with him. I have to work on trusting God to answer prayers and that He will provide for this cat. Please say prayers for him when you can remember. I have not put out food because the other cats will come to eat it and will push him away when they see him. When they see there is no food, they will not keep coming back.
I hope you and your son have been doing well. Christmas and New Year are coming again already. I don't know what happened to Marlene. I asked Leftwing about her. He said she is okay. I think she must be unwell or upset with me about something and does not want to post (!). I will post more again soon. I am thankful this group is still going despite the slow pace. You and everyone have a good day today.
My son and I are doing alright for now. I don't know anything about Marlene, I hope we'll see her back soon. Didn't she get COVID, and recover from the main infection but was having longtern symptoms? (Maybe I'm remembering wrong?) It sounds like it might take some time to recover from that especially when it's alongside other health issues. In any case, I'm sure her absence is for health or busyness reasons and that she is not mad at you. I think she is OK with us all posting without her until she can come back as fellowship is the purpose of the group, and I guess she probably would want that to continue. I will be praying for all the requests as often as I remember.
Wishing you and everyone else here peace and blessings.
