I agree God is always with us and will never leave us. My aim is to become more Christlike also.

I agree and I stopped making and believeing in new year resolutions BUT its a good time to maybe pray about unresolved matters in one's life, hopes etc. Guess what I am trying to say is its maybe a better idea to make new year resolutions with the Lord because they would be more meaningful and powerful and I believe that God will keep on reminding us about them as well. Especially think of the verse from Isaiah "Come let us reason together".

I don't know why it would matter if they chose to or not. Some of us need help setting goals...I don't know why it matters if we are Christians or not. The whole thing of New Year's Resolutions to me is that they are typically started on a memoralbe date. I quit gambling on 8/8/08....I quit smoking on 9/10/08....I like dates that I can remember and I don't see anything at all wrong with making resolutions for the New Year or any other time.

lovesJesus, that's my point. You did the things you did, not by the calender, but by when the Lord had you do them. The dates you mentioned happened by God's Will. Really what matters is that they understand that it's not a man-made calender that dictates action, but the Lord who guides us.

I guess if I was going to make a New Years Resolution it would be to be "ThankFul"...I have a hard time being Thankful when these depressions hit but I have alot to be Thankful for... Right now I am Thankful the depression has lifted...I'm Thankful for all the friends I have here... If I listed all I am Thankful for right now, I'd be up all night...LOL...We have such an awesome God...love cathyww

But after further thought, I tore up that list because I realized many of them are worldly goals. Since I surrendered my life to Christ (and it is a work in progress), my main goals are quite simple: to become closer to God and Christ, and to base my life decisions on fulfilling God's purpose for me here on Earth. Simple goals, but not easy to implement ...

Yes, the goals seem simple, but you're right: they are not easy to put into practice, because the world is always calling us away from God. I pray that God lights a fire in you this year that will focus your thoughts on Him and that He will bring you to a new and fulfilling place. God bless you, brother.

A New Year is a good time to reflect on your life and to really decide some of the things that you want to change. I usually have a whole years worth of resolutions by the time that process is done. But...I prioritize them and once I get one completed, I go on to the next. So they may be enacted on April fools day, for example

There was a Christian pop song a few years ago, I forget by who, that said "Every day is New Year's Day". I think that's a great attitude for a Christian to have... while I agree with you that we shouldn't enslave ourselves to the calendar to make our life goals, neither should we automatically reject a tradition like this if it can help provide us with further incentive toward reaching those goals. We can make life-changing decisions (turning away from ourselves and toward God) any day of the year -- January 1 included. So if the new year provides you with the "excuse" to make that change you've always been wanting to make but have been putting off out of laziness or fear -- then I say go for it. :)
