So Frustrated

Just got back from counseling with my DH to try and figure out what to do about his ex and all the drama caused by her with his daughter. Although I know it is true, it is so frustrating to hear that we basically have to accept his ex the way she is, crappy parenting and all, and just hope for the best. I am not so confident that my step-daughter will turn out fine despite her mother. But all the advice we ever get is that we can't change her (which we know), just deal with it and hope for the best. Meanwhile, every single holiday gets ruined with her drama and lateness and scheduling changes and screw ups, but we are just supposed to "accept this" and be friends with her? How?!!? She is nothing but rude and manipulative and argumentative and unaccommodating to my husband, and he is supposed to just be nice and what, be friends? You can't be friends with someone like this. He has tried. And tried. And gotten repeatedly screwed over. I am just at my wits end. How are we supposed to deal with her repeated disregard for us and our time, and having every special occasion ruined by her lateness? I have no idea. Anyone have any ideas? I'm all out.

Is there a set parenting plan in place? If there is, it sounds like his ex is not following it and therefore can be found i believe the legal terminology is contempt of a court order.
Also, you don't have to be her friend...both parties do have to be respectful to one another in the presence of the child, but beyond common courtesy there is no further relationship necessary.

If u havent got visitation in the courts, do it NOW. If u have already, go to ur states government website "urstatename.gov/forms" and u will b able to download the Contempt forms. When u go to file the contempt charge, the case will then go in front of an actual judge, not a measly lil child support/visitation judge, therefore helping ur chances of getting what u are supposed to get in terms of visitation. U should request that it must be delivered and signed for and that u receive a copy once the delivery is made. U will then get a letter in the mail stating her name and the date and time of the court hearing. It will ONLY list HER name on the paper, but u must be present as u are the one who is filing the charges (I didnt realize that I had to be present so I learned this first hand and was criticized for not being able to afford an attorney as I would have known this had I not tried representing myself UGH). Also, if the visitation is already set in place by a judge, as long as u have the documentation stating when ur to get the child u can call the local police dept (sheriffs dept if in the county and not within city limits) and they will escort u to the residence or wherever the child is and she will have no choice but to hand the child over on the spot. If she doesn't, then the officer will arrest her immediately for contemp of court. Hope this helps as I have been thru this myself and am still dealing with it. And I am disabled so without being able to pay for an atty I have had to learn on my own which has taken 3x the amount of time to get done compared to being able to have legal representation.
