Feedback when NCP Moves Out of State

My Ex and I were married in CA for 7 years, had both our children here, divorced in CA and continued to co-parent for 4 years before he moved out to Iowa, without warning. My Ex has made a modification to the child support order and is now ordered to pay approx 40% less. Whille his income has gone down, so has his his cost-of-living. My cost-of-living in CA hasn't changed and my expenses for the children have gone up as I now have them 100% of the time. I'm not clear on how our child support order has nearly been cut in half. I need to understand how this is in the childrens best interest considering they continue to reside in Ca.

Unfortunately, I do not have any disposable income to attain legal help at this time. Anyone with similar experience?

most 401K's have a prevision to withdraw money for legal fees.

I personally advise people to NEVER go to court or even discuss situations of legal stuff without having a lawyer. It just isn't good practice. You will really get taken advantage of.

I distraught that a man would walk away from his children like that. That SUCKS. is there a way that they can live with him part of the year?

My 401k is wiped, unfortunately. He has offered about 10 days during Summer. That would work for my 12 daughter, but my son is in a special program year round as he has special needs. Honestly, it would put us further into financial straits paying for airline tickets to Iowa. I've got to figure something out.

get a pubic defender? call the women's aduse shelter see what kind of resources they can get you, he has neglected and abandoned his responsibilities. also I don't know if a parent can leagally leave the state without both parents agreeing can they?

I will look into a public defender. Thanks for the suggestion. I am not sure what the rules are around leaving the state your kids live in... Good question. Currently, he is threatening to sue me for custody if I don't send the kids out for atleast 2 weeks during Summer... Again, not sure how that will work with my sons year-round schooling and all his Dr. appts. I will do my best to be financially able to fly them both out (including myself as I can't let my son fly unattended). I'm wondering if imam not able, it sounds like I would be breaching the order...

You should also look into the court house where you live. I know that here the court has a lawyer available to answer questions I think once a week most of the time it is free sometimes there is a small fee.
