I will state this fact about the verses that you are trying to "explain" Israel4ever. They are ALL from the New Testament so I pray that we can agree on this. And so being they are originally, that is from the original "autographs", written in Koine Greek. Your reference to the word angels states the Koine Greek word "aggelos" which does mean "messenger". You left out a "key" part of the definition though and that is messenger or envoy "sent from God." I certainly do not want to get in an argument with you and I won't. I was just looking over some of the earlier posts and came upon this one, read the replies and felt compelled to add a reply myself. As an admin myself I will "echo" NeedAdvice20's warning so we are "crystal clear". And as far as the multitude of Bible translations out there, biblegateway.com is a fantastic site where you can read from most of the popular english translations and even do comparison of up to five different translations of the same verse or verses side by side. This has proved to be an invaluable and "free" tool which I use on a regular basis. I too grew up with the King James Bible and now the New King James Bible is my "go to" Bible, but comparing many translations is both fun and educational. I also have a New Revised Standard Bible and New Jerusalem Bible in my library at home. We will NEVER get a completely "accurate" translation in ANY english version of the Bible, but picking on very small points is neither fruitful or productive to good Bible study. Agreeing to disagree in some instances is just fine with me. God's Word is and always will be just that. As long as we get the esential message and essence of what we are reading then we should be pleased with the result. I will quote a verse from Matthew which speaks to the first "fallen angel" Satan and his minions:

Matthew 25:41
Then He will say to those on the left hand, `Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.' (NKJV)

There truly is no verse that uses the "literal" term "fallen angel" in the Bible, but other verses, like Matthew 25:41, clearly state that they exist.

I dont think this subject can be made any clearer than Mary Turk and Suicidal nomore have written, Yes I understand what is written in scripture is faithfully explained.
Now I read several different translations I use New American Standard Bible, Amplified, Message bible, New Living Translation, I will consult NIV and King James but not as often. I did all my memory work in KJ when I was a little younger, it isnt easy to understand if you dont have a univerity education, NASB is on a grade 12 level, The old Good news translation was a grade 8 level.

I prefer the New Living /Translation as it is the work of a group of scholars.

What ever translation you use God will bless your studies, even a poor translation is better than no bible.

Perhaps we should think of the many in closed countries who hunger and thirst fior a bible, that they coould read Gods word themselves and share with others. I met one man from Cjjina who prayed for a bible and his prayers were answered who inspite of gread persecution and being gaoled and tortured has wond may to Christ

Thank you, Normaeh. I should have thought of that earlier. There are many who would love to be able to read a Bible in their own language. Much less, be able to chose from different translations. We should feel blessed that we have the freedom to read our Bibles. Unlike many countries, who have to slit up their Bibles and hide them from others!! WE ARE blessed to have this "PROBLEM!!"

INDEED WE ARE BLESSED BEYONG MEASURE Mary!!! I would even say "spoiled" in some ways with regards to Biblical resources available to us, but not spoiled in that we use them to spread God's Word to the world.

I like the NIV and the Amplified Bibles. It does help to have a Hebrew and Greek concordance if you can get one. I like studying with mine. I don't think you have to have one, however, to understand and get what you need from the Bible. (Israel4ever, I'm not saying that you said we have to have one, just commenting).

What is really important is asking God to show you what you need to see in the scriptures that is most important. God will show you what you need to see, no matter what "version" you like best.

Someone has pointed out biblegateway.com as an excellent choice. This has helped me.

But, another thing I would like to point out, never take the scriptures out of context. Read the scriptures before AND after the scripture in question. Find out why the person who wrote those words was writing those words.

Exactly Mary and this has been at the "core" of the Bible study group I attend each week. Not only in reading the Scripture before and after the verse in question but in first doing good "exgesis" which is getting the plain meaning of the text as it was delivered to it's "original" audience. This of course helps greatly in NOT taking what we read from the Word out of context. From there we apply "hermeneutics" which is how the same text applies to us today. Any Scripture study should always start with the "then and there"(exegesis) and move to the "here and now"(hermeneutics). I pray that this helps explain good Bible study techniques Becky. This is all "old hat" to you our wondeful leader Mary. And yes biblegateway.com is a fantastic resource which I did mention in a previous reply. As well biblehub.com is a great resource in doing Bible study and they provide commentaries from several respected scholars to help get the maximum meaning from the Word. Need Advice, I don't mean to be "piling" up replies, but I must mention something to you. There are "dangerous" Bible translations in existence which should be "avoided" by ALL Christains. The "chief" one is the New World Translation which is a product of the Jehovah's Witnesses. This translation is terribly "skewed" in its theology as is the Jehovah's Witness Church in my opinion. Stay away from that one ok. It does not even appear as a "choice" on biblegateway.com which I believe speaks "volumes"!!! As well the New Jerualsem Bible deserves a mention not because it is in the same league with the New World Translation, but for the fact that it is, in it's "full" version, a Catholic Bible which includes the "other" books like the apochrypha or "hidden" books. These of course did not make it into the Protestant canon so we can't take them as "teaching" Scripture. The remainder of this version is in line with the other good English translations however. I will say that I do own a New Jerusalem Bible and that there is nothing wrong with reading the "additions" in this version. I have checked this out with the pastor at the Baptist Church I attend each Sunday so no worries. Just remember that the additional books are NOT part of our "official" canon of 66 books and as such we don't use them in any capacity beyond simply reading them out of historical interest.
