Champions Of Christ Church Community Group
This is a church, but online! Most people view a church as the building you go to for worship. NOT TRUE. In the beginning, it was a community that shared things. This is a church. A web-based community who can share with others. Feel free to ask questions. There are no "dumb" questions. How will you know unless you ask. I only ask that you have JOY. (Respect of Jesus,...
When looking at scripture now, I like to look at the NIV and NAS.
The more important thing is, you read the word!!!!
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Above is the KJV.
below is the NIV (New International version) As you can see, the idea is there, the words are different. I believe this is what is meant in the scripture above. The king James version wasn't translated until 1611. It was done mostly because the king of England wanted the common people to have a Bible they could read. At the time, the Bible was in Latin and only the priest could own one. This was approximately 1600 years after the letters of the Bible were written.
Many translations go back to the original Greek scriptures. The original scriptures have pretty much fallen apart and no longer exist. But, many, many copies were made. Way more copies than even the history books of the time. It is very important that the translators go back to as close as they can to the originals. Because of the above verse. It is not good to translate, adding or taking away, anything from the scripture. Although, the way it is said and where it is, leads me to believe it is important not to change anything in the translation of the book of Revelation, it should also apply to anything, anywhere in scripture!!!
Just my opinion!!
Revelations 22:18 & 19!!!
Amen!!!!!!!!
I like reading the KJV because it goes with the concordance. I also love the ESV and NKJV.
One translation mistake that I don't like are on angels. Our English bibles make us believe that angels can sin and fall from heaven. But again, when we read it in Hebrew, it is different. But that's just one...
And I would appreciate your telling me the scripture you are referring to about angels falling.
And as far as angels falling or sinning, is that something that you believe?
In post #7, you said, "One translation mistake that I don't like are on angels. Our English bibles make us believe that angels can sin and fall from heaven." I would appreciate your giving me the scripture reference you mean before I say anything else on the subject!!!
2 Peter 2v4 "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;"
Jude 6 "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."
The word here for "angels" is "aggelos", and essentially means "messenger". It is often applied to mortal men and sometimes God's Holy elect. It seems reasonable to regard Jude's and Peter's words as applying to men, esp. as he was exhorting them about things they already were acquainted with. He was "putting them in remembrance, though you once knew this" (Jude 5)
Both chapters speak of the power by unauthorized persons, who "despised the dominion" of those whom God had chosen and appointed. Jude and Peter select examples from the OT, well-known to the Hebrew brethren and hence of greater relevance. "I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those that believed not" . Following this, some versions have a semi-colon to show that these words are connected with what follows, namely, "and the angels who kept not their principality"
The reference is to the rebellion of Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and the 250 prince. They said to Aaron and Moses, "Ye take too much upone you, seeing all the congregaiton are holy" (Num16v3). Korah and his sons had been given "principality" in being selected to minister in the Tabernacle of God, as Moses reminded them. Their real intention was to usurp the priesthood which had been given to Aaron and his son, as Moses said, "Seek ye the priesthood also? For which cause both thou and all they company are gathered together against the LORD"
In this way they kept not "their own principality" but had "forsaken their proper dwelling". To vindicate His servants, God caused these rebels to be consumed by the earth miraculously opening it's mouth - so "reserving them in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgement of the great day".
Note that "chains of darkness" is a term expressive of the grave and death. Those who rebelled against Moses are thus reserved in death for judgement of the great day of the return of Christ.
Secondly, we know that angels cannot sin because they are immortal. If you are immortal, you don't die. Plus, Paul tells us that ALL angels are ministering spirits. Not some, or half, but all. ALL angels do the will of God. Scripture tells us that if you sin, you die. Angels don't die because they are immortal. Immortality and sin do not go together. Christ tells us that we will be someday be like that angels in the Kingdom. If angels can sin, and we will be like the angels, then it will be only Christ in the Kingdom at his return.
Hope this helps.
I would state my case, but you seem very influenced by your own beliefs. You, like many others who look for "mistakes" in the Bible, are convinced that your beliefs are the only beliefs out there. Not true.
2 Peter 2v4 "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;"
Peter was talking to humans and telling them if God didn't even spare the angels who sinned, how do we, as humans, expect God to spare us!!
Peter goes on to show the stories of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, Were righteous people were saved:
2 Peter
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
My way of interpreting those scriptures is that Lucifer wanted the power he believed God had. He then convinced other "angels" in heaven to fight on his side. No one, human or non-human, can overcome God.
Peter was speaking to humans about the fact that if God didn't even spare "the angels that sinned (Lucifer and those that followed him) than he would not spare us humans. Jude is speaking about this group, also. "
2 Peter 2v4 "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;"
Jude 6 "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation"
Jude, I believe, is speaking about this group, also.
It is just not right to take a verse out of context, and have it say what you want it to say. It needs to be left in context. I can take a verse out of context and have it say what I want:
Ephesians 5
18 And be not drunk with wine
I can make this scripture support my belief that you should not drink alcohol, but, no! That's not the whole scripture:
Ephesians 5
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
The whole scripture says, "don't drink IN EXCESS", don't drink til you get drunk.
This is just one example.
This is what I believe, and I'm sticking to it!!
Revelation 22:18-19 (AKJV)
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
That's just MY opinion!!!.
That's not true at all. And I don't know why you would even say that. I could say the same thing for you too, but I don't.
[My way of interpreting those scriptures is that Lucifer wanted the power he believed God had. He then convinced other "angels" in heaven to fight on his side. No one, human or non-human, can overcome God.]
Have you ever really read Isaiah 14? I don't think you have. And you say that I take things out of context?? Isaiah 14 is about the king of Babylon. It even says it. It also says the subject is a man. Big difference from what you believe in. And... Lucifer is only in the KJV and NKJV. No other bible has Lucifer in it. Why? Lucifer is a Latin word in a Hebrew bible. That makes sense to you? Not to me. That means if was "added in" at some point. Lucifer is a Latin word for the planet Venus. It also can mean bright light or morning star. Isaiah is comparing the King to the Planet Venus on how he is going to fall from his throne. And again, it even says it. So Mary, you really might want to be alittle more easy on other people who believe differently from you. Because it seems to me that you just follow traditions of ghost stories that the world believes in without looking into them first.
That's just MY opinion!!!!
I only talk about these things because I am afraid others might be influenced by your belief system
I have read Isaiah 13,14, and 15. You must remember that the chapter and verse separations were implemented many years after scripture was written. Reading the previous and following chapter can help.
I have prayed hard for an answer to your post. The only answer I seem to come up with is:
This "argument" isn't even related to the original post. I believe that NeedAdvice originally wanted to know "So what version of the Bible is the most accurate?" I believe no one "version" of the Bible is most accurate. I believe that God will use any version of the Bible to get His thought across to us.
The main point here should be.......reading A Bible. Listening to what gives each individual through His word. Some may get something entirely different from what others get.
If you are able to access different translations, good!! If not,
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
[New International Version (NIV)]
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
[New King James Version (NKJV)]
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This group was originally started as a church. A church is a place were we uplift and support each other. Not bad mouth another's belief system. I will apologize now for the words I said that seemed to offend you.
Your words are argumentative and harsh to me. I will not continue to give you a "pulpit" to preach from.
And, after reading the rules again for DS, I feel that this whole discussion thread has become hurtful and harsh. Quoted from DailyStregth's rules of the road:
3. DailyStrength tackles serious life-and-death issues. There are real people behind each of the computers connected to DS, and many of them are going through traumatic experiences and need help. Before responding, try to give folks the benefit of the doubt, and think about how you'd feel as the recipient of your contributions. Is it appropriate? Is it helpful? As our moms always said, "If it's not nice, don't say it."
6. Religion:
DailyStrength has no religious affiliation. However, we believe that religion can play an important role in helping people overcome their challenges. Members must respect other members' differing religious beliefs, and do not assume that other Members subscribe (or want to subscribe) to yours
Not at all, don't even know why your saying that. No one is arguing at all. I think most people are upset because my posts are different from their beliefs. And I probably make them things about their own beliefs. It's funny, because I can show scripture explaining my posts, but you still say it's out of context but you don't look at yours.
[I only talk about these things because I am afraid others might be influenced by your belief system]
My belief system? shouldn't I be saying that to you?
[Your words are argumentative and harsh to me. I will not continue to give you a "pulpit" to preach from.]
Wow. Cant believe your writing things like this. It's almost like your writing this to almost "make a problem" on the board. I'm glad I don't write things like that........ It's funny on how some people are though.... If someone talks about something different and can actually back it up, they are still the bad guys and the "cult". lol lol Cracks me up every time. And most of you don't even know what a cult is. lol Too funny! But everyone else just "follows" certain people on those topics. And if you went back to look at what other people have said to me in other posts.... but that's ok, that is "overlooked". lol Too funny!! But anyhow....
The topic was about what bibles are the most accurate. I was just stating, like you, that comparing our English bibles to the Hebrew, there are really none. But there are some that are close. I think the ESV version is a good one. I like also like the KJV.
