Fasting 101

I'm almost embarrassed to write about this,but as a Christian I've always found it extremely difficult to fast. Does anyone have any tips to make it easier?

I fast now and then. Sometimes I go to college without food. I am a student so not eating for 9 hours, for example, is pretty tough already xD All I then say to myself is: ''There are loads of people on this planet, right now, that don't have anything. God's love is all I need to get through this.'' And trust me it works. If I start focusing on God more, it really sort of takes away the feeling of having an empty stomach because something else is far more important than food at that moment. Only He is that important that it can literally move my attention. It helps me now and then. Why I do it like this? Because througout the day, I am mostly out in the wicked world. Hunger helps me bring my attention to God for that reason. Also, loads of children go to school without food and they also have to make it through. My mum told me to watch out with this though since I may have an unstable blood pressure or something like that. My father has issues with his blood pressure so she told me to be careful haha

Everyone should be careful. I understand the hungry thing, the lack of food thing. Been there myself. But, once again, I must caution people who have health issues. This is not something God requires of us.

I heard it well put during this last week:

Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

It this plain and simple statement, Jesus confirmed there are a commandments that are important:

1. Love God with everything you have,
2. Love everyone else.

There was no mention of fasting, ceremonial rituals, ceremony anything. Just a things to remember. That should be easy enough to remember.
