heard about it, didn't have it, i hade a cold cone... but there was to much cancer so my cone did nothing

I had the LEEP proceedure done. I was in stage 4 (right before cervical cancer) and they were able to remove all the cells that were abnormal. It was an interesting proceedure. They sprayed a vinegar solution to highlight the cells. The numbing shot was pretty terrible that they put right into the cervix. I had to have a couple shots because of were the cells were. After that all I felt was pressure. They ended up taking large sections of my cervix, sometimes 1/2 in to and inch thick.

The worse part of it is the way i felt after. Kind of dirty.

But they were able to remove all the cells, they did the vinegar solution again to make sure. Now I just pray it doesn't come back, and I pray i can have kids. They took almost 1/2 of my cervic, so it can fail when i become pregnant. I guess i will find out in the next two years.

LEEP has several advantages above cold conization as it can be done outpatient and has minimal bleeding. For CIN 2-3 a conization can be done with this equipment they just do a double liip, The studies vary as to how the pathologist interpret the margins. Most study show the same success rate for treatment of moderate to severa dyplasia with both and cancer in situ, which is limted to service cells.

It is somethimes used for incvasive for adolecents and women who are pregnant, I have a friend who had a cold cone 25 years ago, had 3 kids, did a LEEP for CIN2 and on follow up 2 years later was postive for Adenocarcinoma and had a repeat LEEP, to blled out 2 weeks later and get and emergency Hist.

My LEEP is in 3 weeks, I progressed from abnormal cells to Cancer in situ, in 3 months after a ECC. So a conization is the only option for curative and further diagnostic, then there is still a 2 -3 percent chance of a undetected invasive lesion. Hope that helps.

I had a LEEP Cone back in January. It was done on an out paitent basis. I had it done the same time I had my tubal. I had a problem with bleeding so my doctor had to pack me and I had to keep the packing in for 24 hours. I have a dx of HSIL exhibiting extensive endocervical glandular extension. Still not sure what that means but I have a hysterectomy scheduled for May2.

i had a leep done a few weeks ago. my doctor had said i had moderate dysplasia and recommended the leep. the biopsy came back as only mild dysplasia, which leaves me worried that i should have waited and monitored the progress of the abnormality. i turn 30 this year and hope to have children and worry that my cervix will be "incompetent."

with you having it treated so soon with the leep was a good choice. Your cervix will heal back pretty quickly. Also the chance that your cells will grow back normally is really good. Unlike cryro the chances of having children is not changed nearly as much you shouldnt have any trouble getting pregnant. Hope that makes you feel better.

When I was diagnosed I was sent to have a LEEP done. First I was asked to sit on a bed and put my legs up in stirrups. (mind you Im only 20 at the time) The dr used a vinegar spray to locate the cancerous cells and then took what he called "Minor snippets" I wasnt given any pain relief and it hurt quite a bit. He sprayed again and then sent me on my way. This started my menstrual cycle and I found it to be alot more painful than any I had had befoer. When the results came back I was informed that the cancer was more developed than the dr had thought and it was infact in the cervical canal rather than simply on the opening. I was sent back to the city this time for an operation. I had to meet 3 other drs and an anesthitist. the next day I was put under and they did what I was told was a 'Cone Biopsy'. When I came to I was disorientated and very upset.. the nurse told me the first hting I said was 'Wheres my Mummy?' I know I sound like a baby but really this is the biggest thing Ive been through and It was so scary. I was informed that they had to take more than half my cervix, but had removed all the affected cells. I was released from hospital within 3 hours but had to stay in the city for at least 3 days in case of haemorraging. I bled alot and I was in loads of pain. I had my last cigarette the night before I went in for the op and havent had one since...
Ive had several colposcopies since and all have been clear. I fell pregnant in August last year and was so afraid of an incompetant cervix I asked the dr to keep an eye on it. I know if neccessary I could have requested a suture but Im grateful I havent needed one as I have had some of my cervix grow back. I was told that the fact htat I have doen excessive pelvic floor exercises may have attributed to the fast regrowth. Im now 3 weeks away from my due date so I know It is very possible for any lady who has had the operation to carry a healthy baby full term. Some just need a little stitch to help...

Your welcome hun. I was lucky and had two beautiful babies before any of this cancer stuff started. I will be having a total abdominal hysterectomy next week. I have Carcinoma in situ ( severe type of dyslplasia ) I choose to have the hysterectomy done the doctor said I could go through the LEEP Cone again and I said no thank you im doing having children and this is pretty serious so take it all out.

I agree I wouldnt have been as scared had I had a little more information on the prcedure I was going to have. Its always a pleasure to be able to help someone else out through my experiances. I figure that is the main reason I actually go through alot of it...

I am going to have a LEEP on the 22nd of May and am scared to death I want to be able to have more children but have this feeling inside myself that this might not work I went for a Pap a littl over a month ago and a Month later Im having some of my cervix taken out which means it has to be pretty serious right ...

With low grade to moderate dysplasia there is a really good chance that it will reverse itself on its own. There is no reason why you cant have children after having a leep done. The cervix grows back very quickly.

I had a LEEP done in Jan 2006, for "as close as you can get to cervical cancer without actually having surgical cancer", but my periods had been strangely off for a couple of months before that, and after thinking about it, I went ahead with doing the LEEP (instead of a hysterocody).

Everything was okay for awhile, and now--just the past couple of months--my periods have gone back to being strange again, and this last one was really bad (even worse than it had been on the eve of my Jan 06 LEEP).

So I know it's back-I've been having normal paps for the past year (every 3 months, last one being in Feb), but paps have a 30% false negative rate, and I definitey know now there's a problem again...

It's hard, because I'm only 32 with one child, but I think I should have trusted my instincts and had the entire thing removed--as much as I would love to leave open the possibility of having more children, staying alive for the child I have is priority number 1--

I guess what I'm saying is trust your instincts :) Nothing is confirmed, of course, but (as we all know) we know when something isn't right...

Hi again. I know I wrote before but I really would like to reassure milmomjack. Hunni just because they are taking out some of your cervix doesnt mean you wont have any more children. I know this because I had HALF my cervix taken and Im due today to deliver my first baby. (It hasnt happened yet) I havent needed any stitches or any medical intervention. In fact, when I was checked by my gynacologist at 22 weeks we discovered that some of my cervix had actually grown back. I myself didnt think this was possible, but he assured me it was normal with well practiced pelvic floor muscles. Im not a professional and I dont know much about it, but I do know that it doesnt stop you from having more children hunni, dont go panicking over this.

i had a leep when i was 15 and they told me i may never have children now i am 24 and have 3 boys and one baby girl angel. so please kow that even though it is scary it will be ok because it is better to have it done then have to go through something worse.
