Hey Everyone!
My name is Emaline, im 15 years old and I have moderate CP that effects my right side. Currently, I am at a summer camp for the preforming arts. It has been super fun except for a few councelors that have made me feel really bad. In a dance class the teacher saw that i had my right arm in a "protective position" as my doctors call it (right by my chest). Obviously I could not stick my arm out straight and I was super embrassed because any person could see that I am disabled. She called me out in front of everyone and was saying "that is not how you do it, fix your arm". I did not know how to respond so I just ignored her. My younger sister shot the lady a dirty look. I just tried to brush it off. The next day, we were spinning clay on a wheel and another lady told me to put my fingers on the pot and i cant just use one hand. Of course I was mortified, and so I tried and she kept on saying that is not how you do it. I found it to be quite insensitive, and again I did not know how to react. When I told my parents they said that I should talk to the director, and they obviously reaffirmed that their behavior was not apprioate. I just would love the perspective of someone with CP about how to handle adults who are disrespectful. I am super nervous about talking to the director, but I realize that it needs to be done not only for me, but kids like me in the future. Thank you for your thoughts!! Sorry for the rant and ramble.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

So voc rehab finally got in touch with me...it took like six months finally. The voc rehab person that they assigned to me is a lawyer and extremely knowledgable on disability law and he seems to know a great deal about how to get people placed in jobs and how to make their resumes pass ATS. I have a mild form of Cerebral palsy,
And I went a camp especially for the disabled, Variety Club, Now called "Variety"
But, Yah, I had one particular Counselor, One day I spilt My juice, And he got all upset at me, luckily, My friend stuck up for me.
and told that counselor I had cerebral palsy,
this was probably 30 yrs ago, And didn't put those counselors through A "CIT" (counselor in training) program, Now they have to, and should, if they wanna work with the disabled.
I understand You wanna go to a camp for "NORMAL" people, But, Maybe You look into A camp adapted to some like You.
