Celiac Disease Support Group
Celiac disease is an auto-immune disorder of the digestive system that occurs in genetically-predisposed individuals. It is characterised by damage or flattening to all or part of the villi lining the small intestine, which interferes with the absorption of nutrients. This damage is caused by eating anything with gluten (gliadin), a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley...

I just wanted to post some symptoms. I hope it helps someone to try the gluten free diet.
About 10 years ago, my health started a steady decline. I had headaches, depression, restless legs, bloating, heart palpitations, joint pain, and probably some other stuff I can't remember. I was overweight, but noy so that would have me standing and walking like a 90 yr old lady. The worst was I would force myself to work, (was doing an internship) then come home and go to bed. Neglecting my 5 kids, and poor husband. He would just stand there and go, "get up! just get up and do something!" Anyway, at the end of my rope, I remembered when I was on the blood type diet and felt so good. I started that, (which for my type, 0, is pretty much gluten free), and in four days felt fantastic.
My husband had different symptoms. His were the reflux type. Swelling. He had choking issues, food getting stuck in his esophogus, etc. After a couple of months gluten free, he doubted he had the same thing, and went back to gluten. I fixed him gluten FILLED meals for 4 days. Day 5 he called me saying he thought he was having a heart attack, and we went to the ER. While there, we found his heart was great, it was the gluten. He is a believer. We both can tell if we get it accidently at a resturant, etc. If we hadn't found out, where would we be today?? On meds for all these symptoms....who knows??
Our symptoms are not standard, so I hope hearing this will promt someone to try the gluten-free diet.
Sorry so longgggggggggggg,
Dana

Great testimony to the dangers (and varied side effects) of gluten. For me, gluten increases my muscle inflammation, which is dangerous for me because I have polymyositis. I, too, know when I'm accidentally glutened, usually within 30-60 minutes. You're right! People should at least try a GF diet to see if it makes a difference. Glad to have you "on board" at this site. Welcome to you!

Thank you for your story. I'm new here, after being sick for a few years, and I intend to read a lot of these posts.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
