hello everyone, my name is heather , and i am 14 years old. It is September 19th , 2006 and i was diagnosed with Celiac Disease yesterday. I am overwhelmed and i really dont know what to think, my family told me to come on here and discuss with other people that have this disease. Well here i am , confused and open to anythinng you guys want to throw at me. My friends dont really understand how serious this actully is, my parents thankfully do. So i would like it if you guys helped me through it :) , i am only 14 and it seems you guys are experianced in having this , and could really help me !

Celiac Disease (lack of gluten). We are hearing all about the Olympic Games (Olympic Games Rio 2016). (Do not think we will go very well this time :-( Anyway. Does the lack of gluten in the athlete's diet cause their performance to be poorer than what it would be?

There is controversy over this matter. Some athletes feel their performance is enhanced by eating gluten-free. From what I've read, it is carbs that are important to good performance. But why do the carbs have to come from gluten-containing grains? IMHO, athletes can consume healthy carbs without eating gluten-containing foods.

This is an old message I have responded to it in case someone else finds themselves in a simliar position.

Not surprised your friends do not understand about Celiac Disease, why should they? They would not have any personal interest in it. It can take some time to really understand it.

I will only be too happy to phone your parents/gastroligist. And discuss Celiac Disease with them.

Would not worry too much about your friends. Many people and I mean many do not believe that one of their friends have a disorder. Mind you, you can fix this by showing them the report that your gastrologist wrote. This would comment re the state of your bowel. No problems. The lack of your parents interest would also encourage your friends lack of interest.

Now I bet I get told of here. I am horrifed that your parents seem not to be taking any interest in the state of your health re Celiac Disease. Do you really have Celiac Disease? Would think that your parents would notice you symptoms?

Seems strange that when showing their knowledge of Celiac Disease they do not assist you. The gastroenterlogist would recommend a neutronoligist. Join a Celiac Disease Society.

Mind you I would hope that one or the other of your parents went with you to the gastrologist for the results of the tests you had.
