My mom had decent luck with 'Depends'.

You might need to pull a huge guilt trip on your mom (and scare her a bit) and tell her that there is NO QUESTION, she will be going to the doctor. This may be the symptom of something serious, and it MUST be looked into.

On the plus side, things that come on suddenly can also disappear just as suddenly!

Hey girl. We have my mom mom wearing adult pull up underwear(diapers). She was wearing Depends, but we were told that Tena was better from my Aunt who works at a hospital, so we switched to them. They are so much easier for her to use. Medicare doesn't cover the cost. We buy them in bulk through Amazon, so it's cheaper than buying them at the stores.

As for getting her to the doctors, I agree with what ThePepperMan said. It was a progression with my mom mom, so this happening suddenly could be an indication of something and possibly treatable. Getting my mom mom to wear the diapers wasn't easy in the beginning, which is very common and understandably so. So your mom being told that she may not have to wear them after getting checked out may be enough incentive for her to go.

my mom lost control when she began a UTI...and needed antibiotics. She now wears them when she has to travel farther than going to church. It makes her feel more confident now.
Her doctor gave her a sample bottle to take home with us for future testing.

Thank you all for taking the time out to respond. My mom is refusing to go to the doctor which is no surprise. She is basically terrified of going. In her mind if you don't go looking for anything then you won't find anything.

I guess I should also say this isn't completely sudden in that she had bladder leakage before so I guess this is more of a progression. It was just sudden to me to see her lose complete control of her bladder a few times yesterday.

I hope it goes away suddenly, but I am doubting it. Unfortunately I think she has parkinsons which could be the cause and maybe dementia, but again she won't go to the doctor. *sigh* I don't know what to do.

Going to the doctor would be a good idea; your Mom could have a bladder, kidney, or urinary tract infection that is causing the incontinence. Put on the proper medication, this problem could go away, at least for awhile.

Incontinence is a common part of the aging process, but sometimes it can be controlled, and yes, the proper pull-up disposable underwear helps a lot..

I will try to get her to a doctor. Would I call a primary care doctor or a urologist?

Many insurance plans require us to go through the primary care doctor first, so that is a good place to start.

I hope she goes to the doc just to make sure. Also, I believe they have meds for bladder control. Please keep us posted B.....

My mother used assurance until it got so bad that she needed actual diapers. I bought some because I have been suffering with diarrhea for the past 2 months. They are not comfortable but they do the job. They aren't cheap but either is doing loads of laundry. As Trojan shared, unfortunately, Medicare won't pay for them until she has Hospice and then Hospice will provide them. Hugs GB

Thank you for your responses. My mom refuses to go to the doctor, but at least she is wearing the Tena I bought for her. I don't think she has wet herself since I bought them so maybe this issue will go away, but I'm still concerned.
