Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
My mom's mental deterioration has been like a long, slow trip downhill.
Back in 2014, I had to intervene and take over her medications.
2015: she stopped preparing her own meals & snacks. She also stopped taking care of her finances: missed several credit card payments and neglected to make her quarterly tax payments (ouch! Nice juicy penalties and interest there).
In 2016, Ma stopped bathing and no longer looked after her clothes: she would dress in shirts with food stains, and pants that smelled like pee.
Last year's cognitive screening at her annual physical showed definite impairment. Ma also tends to overestimate her physical abilities, trying to step over our 55 lb. dog (YIKES) rather than going around.
It's been a very long 4 years, as I have stepped up to do more and more for her, and supervise her more closely to keep her safe. I feel as though I have aged a decade.
Okay. End of rant. Thanks for reading.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Gentle hugs
