Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
Rather than react with anger we faked concern and presented them with options that would mitigate the situation. The fake emotions were not over the top, they were quite believable. It was very fun to watch them swallow their rudeness. They never really apologized, but their rants usually died like a sputtering old car.
I could write a book after 30 years of working at the funeral homes on some things we have done to laugh.
The one funeral home has motion lights in the prep room....when the funeral director had it built, he thought it would help save on electricity as well as be helpful in the fact nobody had to use a switch to turn on the lights. think about it......not much movement goes on in the prep room....especially by me, the hairdresser.
The lights go off on me often when I get involved with my job and I find myself in total darkness (no windows in the prep room) with just the body. One time I was doing color and while rinsing the hair, becuz there wasn't much movement going on.....the lights went off. I had a hose of running water with no way to find the sink across the room or the holder to hold the hose. I kept waving my free hand in the air to try and trip the light......nothing. So with a running hose, I stepped away from the table and started jumping and waving my arms in the air......finally the lights tripped. I had saturated the entire room AND the body. I am so glad nobody saw me flailing like an idiot in the dark to try and trip the lights.....oy.......
I did tell one of the other funeral directors and we both roll our eyes about the motion lights in the prep room.
At times, I know we (here) may tell stories with a different theme. However, there is often a relationship across the board. People / communications...and how we manage.
Just curious now, do you ever eat at Mc D's?? If so what is your favorite fat....I mean food. For me, a tie between fish and B-g Mac
That is a very seldom because of sodium, fat, etc.. restrictions.

So we get down there and find the only empty slot to be about three feet over our heads. Omg! Morbid as it sounds we almost peed our pants laughing trying to stuff the dear departed into that drawer!
And Trojan, you are the woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's one place, they could never get me to go; the morgue!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only went when it was absolutely necessary. Hated it in there! Gave me the creeps!
I have a friend who was a nurse. She worked in a teaching hospital years ago. Most of the students hated morgue duty (taking a deceased patient to the morgue). They all took turns and it happened to be this one girl who was petrified of being alone with a deceased body and doing morgue duty. My friend told her not to worry. Told her to call the morgue first and instead of taking the body into the morgue, she should just get off the elevator and push the body through the door straight off the elevator and someone would be on the other side of the door to receive the body......problem solved!
However, when the girl got off the elevator with the body she got confused about which door to push the body through and sent it through the wrong door........which happened to be the laundry shoot!!!!! It took a few hours to retrieve the body....LOL.
I never minded going to the morgue, but I never had to go by myself.
Nights could get so boring we would volunteer for just about anything to break the monotony and try to stay awake.
But the laundry chute story tops mine for sure!!!!
It gets the breathing exercises out of the way :)
Have a wonderful Friday.

Oh here's one I just thought of from the memory care unit my dad lives in.
There is an ADORABLE lady living in the unit who seems so normal most of the time I wondered what she was doing in there at first.
She always wants to talk to me and give me hugs, and I look forward to seeing her when we visit.
One day she came out with a dress shoe on one foot and a sneaker on the other.
After our hug I said," Hey Marta! You have two different shoes on!"
She looks down and say's,"Why yes I do don't I? I guess that was all I had!"
Not her real name of course.
Breaking away from the thread a bit: One more thing about the Big Mac.
There is a 15 year old I know who adores this food. She has had a rough time in her young years. She is like a middle school girl and a 30 year old all in one.
Her birthday is soon, so I have saved big mac boxes through friends and two that were mine. I am making" Bic Mac-atas." (Pinatas)Shaped in a mobile but she gets to blind fold and whack the boxes. Each having a small something for her 16th. Of course, a gift card so she can buy her own. And probably 16 in quarters, maybe a gift card to Topics or whatever teenage-bopper store.
It is childish but we are somewhat playful in my family. If I make it to old age I just may be that one the staff chases after :)

PS, Is this the way to reach you on closing? Or?
Is there a way we can help by closing these or does it take the CL?
Thanks
