Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
We watched my MIL battle this for 5 months in the hospital. A cardiologist with a time slot open convinced her to have valve surgery which did nothing to help and set her up for more problems.
My advice is to ask the doctor to come in to talk to you and mom together. Have him explain what is going on. How the CHF is going to bring on different problems that they can try to treat but that there is little they can do for the CHF. Ask him what it would take for mom to go home relatively safely. Let that be her goal to work toward. But mom needs to understand what is going on. She sounds like my mom who was very healthy but once one thing opened up it just snowballed. Mom kept insisting she is fine because she was always healthy, refusing to see what is reality today.
